The owner is a mean, rude whack job! My 70 year old grandpa waited more than 1 hour for a cup of chowder and the place was not even busy. When he was too tired to wait anymore and still no one a the table had received their food, he got up and walk to the car to wait for us, saying that he would like to cancel his chowder. The Owner followed him outside and yelled at him for canceling his chowder. I went outside and said "don't yell at my grandpa". He said to get our food to go. Who in their right mind yells at a 70 old man for not wanting to wait longer than an hour for a cup of chowder.
Best lunch spot in US-2. Perfect place to stop after a hike, including an outdoor patio. Good burgers, good beer selection, friendly service and they have a kids menu.
The food is great. The crew is friendly and the place is clean. A very good experience
Like many people, I enjoy a tasty burger after a nice long hike. I happened upon Bubba's following a climb up to Lake Serene at the base of Mt. Index. We were directed to Bubba's by a kind local at another establishment that didn't serve burgers, despite calling itself a "Pub & Eatery". As far as ambiance and decor, the moniker "Road House" announces everything you need to know: It's not much to look at inside or out. Cheap tables give way to a small stage for live music (none was playing the afternoon we were there) and there is a small but sturdy bar right as you walk in the door. But oh the burgers. Without a doubt the best port-hike hamburger I've ever had. The menu has just a little bit of sass proclaiming that all the burgers are hand-formed "unless market prices are ridiculous" but still promises 100% angus meat with "no pink goo". The fries weren't bad either and are clearly hand-cut fresh from whole potatoes. It's rare to find a place like that that puts so much pride into their food. Between hearty bites of our rather tasty burgers my hiking companion and I discussed other hikes off of Highway 2. Just so we'd have an excuse to come back.
Great burgers, big :) (one pound) and made the way I like them, maybe the best I tasted in recent time.
