Virginia Diner

Excellent! I had the crab cake and black eyed peas and mac n cheese, and he had the fried chicken and bbq pork with green beans and it was all great. I don't know what the other reviewer was taking about with the atmosphere - we found it pleasant and welcoming and had great service from everyone there. Of course had to try the peanut pie - this is the peanut capital.

GREAT HOMESTYLE COOKING ! If you are anywhere near Wakefield it is a must to stop in an pick a meal off of the menu...you will not be disappointed . Oh! Try the World-Famous Peanut Pie....my grandmother could not have done any better. Yum!

I did not enjoy the food. The prices were high, food quality didn't match prices. Instead of a ham steak with breakfast, I was served deli sliced ham. Nothing special, dingy, overpriced. Definitely would not go back. Heard a lot of talk about this place; the talk is not supported by the experience. Need to revamp the menu and bring prices in line with food quality.

I ate at Virginia Diner about a month ago, as I was passing through town. What struck me most about Virginia Diner and left me horrified was the sometimes subtle, sometimes blatant racism among the staff. For example, the greeters and waitstaff were all white - but the cleaning staff, the busers, and the low-level kitchen staff were all black. I actually watched as my (white) waitress accidentally dropped a straw, then just left it. Eventually, a black buser picked it up. The black staff don't make eye contact with the customers AT ALL, and they're all dressed in menial-looking uniforms while the waitstaff and hosts dress in brighter uniforms that look more like plain clothes. I've been to all kinds of restaurants, from tiny dives to fancy dress. I've never seen such segregation between staff classes as I experienced at Virginia Diner. Ignoring that the food was just middling, I found myself very uncomfortable while dining there and I will never go back. The racism is too ingrained.

The Best fried chicken I've ever had! Pies are awesome too... Well actually everything is awesome!
