This restaurant is the jewel of the Suffolk restaurant scene, and I am so thrilled that it's nestled in an amazing space downtown and not in sprawling North Suffolk. The food is sensational! My husband and I could live on the pork belly biscuits and fries alone. While the entrees can get pricey, the burger is killer without killing your wallet. I splurge whenever there is rockfish, quail or duck creations. Oh and softshell crab tacos. Absolutely love the taco items when they appear on the menu. The cocktail and wine menus are also exceptional. The creativity in cocktails is on the order of a major city. And the rotating list of wines is always well researched to ensure delight.

This restaurant didn't deliver when I visited there last week. The food was over-priced - $4 for a quarter-sized ham (pork belly) biscuit! Really?!!! The appetizers we ordered were not good: the pork belly biscuit I was served was small and the silver of ham was over 50% pure, white fat! Yuck! The french fries were not greasy but looked and tasted burnt! The oysters were fried but watery inside. The only remotely tasty items we ordered were the hush puppies (crunchy on the outside, light and tender on the inside) and the pound cake (with chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream). The "Happy Hour" specials, the 1-hour span of time between opening and 6:00 pm, were apparently applicable ONLY IF you sat at their unfinished bar (no foot rail and about 15 metal chairs made for the under 100 lbs crowd.) Seemed rather silly since the whole restaurant is an open rectangle with the bar and a combo of about 10 booths and tables. Our group would have been more comfortable at a table, but oh well. I didn't leave with a favorable view of this restaurant and know I will never visit again. Now, the Plaid Turnip across the street is much, much, much better in all respects. My recommendation is the Plaid Turnip.

The food took a while to come out but we did go on a Saturday night. Very nice staff and food was great also there was a happy hour on a Saturday which is unheard of!!

We recently held a company dinner at Harper's Table for 15 employees and spouses, including some serious foodies and experienced wine industry folks-not easy-to-please types. They were blown away by the food, service, and decor. The seasonal menu items were stellar-my soft shell crab taco was quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. And the service was perfect, wine and water glasses were kept full, and 15 entrees made it onto the table in 45 seconds-steaks and scallops cooked to perfection. Suffolk may be a bit out of the way, but their private dining room is ideal for a special occasion or corporate dinner when you want to impress. Do yourself a favor and get over there while the summer menu is on-you won't regret it.
