Rapture

As part of my job, I an supposed to give recommendations for restaurants to customers, which there are many options to choose from in walking distance on the mall. I know not to recommend this place from here on out. I've gone to the bar a couple of times after dinner hours, and it plays a good variety of music and has a sizable amount of space to where you don't feel crammed. My issue is the dinner menu. You literally have about 10 choices as far as entrees. I decided to go with a medium-well steak, that comes with a blue cheese salad and mashed potatoes, which was $24. I felt as if I was ripped off. The steak was no more then 6 oz. and more like medium rare, as it was dark red and still cold in the middle. For some reason the salad was spicy and I couldn't finish after one bite. Our server sat around the bar while our food was being made, with some other employees, as it must of been a slow night for them, but I wasn't able to get a refill on my drink until my food finally was ready . The service was sub-par, the prices are ridiculous, and the restaurant is really in need of some revamping. I sat on more tape than I did a booth. Very Disappointing experience.
I've lived in Charlottesville for most of my life, and Rapture is by far one of my favorite restaurants. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is amazing. Their fish and chips are a staple on their menu and you can't go wrong with them. The burger is superb, and the hillbilly egg rolls are genius. Weekend brunch is the best around - their bacon is literally the best bacon ever. If there's a chef's special you should try it, and the soup of the day is always on point.
Walked up on a quiet Sunday, sat outside. Wine selection was not deep, but good quality. Servers were exceptionally friendly & helpful. Food was fantastic, done to perfection, highly recommend the sausage-stuffed rock barn pork.
I would describe ecstasy as a wonderful bliss, which is not what I've experienced at Rapture so far. My trips to Rapture have been with a group of friends, and circumstances usually have me eating at home, so I have no opinion on the food. Unless you catch a drink special, they're pricy, and sometimes the drinks do indeed come with flies/hair/etc. However, our recent experience with a rude waitress in the back will probably halt any future visits here. Maybe she was just having a bad night, but you can get a good drink anywhere in Charlottesville, so I recommend getting one somewhere with less attitude.
Excellent, friendly service and great food.
