The Wild Mushroom Restaurant
Reviews
Friday "bar scene" very loud and carried over to dining room which made it difficult for a party of 4 to converse. Service staff very friendly but not well coordinated. Each of 4 salads/appetizers arrived at different times with 1 -3 minutes between arrivals. Escargot appetizer had a sweet Asian style sauce that overwhelmed the subtleness of the snails. After tasting 2 of the 6-8 on the plate I asked the waiter to remove the plate. While it was clear that the majority of the serving remained on the plate, the waiter made no inquiry about whether there was anything wrong with the food. Crabcake had the consistency of mashed potatoes and the accompanying au gratin potatoes were bland. In fairness, I must report that 2 guests each had steak dinners which were acceptable. Expensive cost of meal did not justify the end result. Too many better local dining options to consider a return
Let me start by saying that even though I WAS ON MY VALENTINE'S DATE WITH MY WIFE, Chef JARETT JOSLIN WAS RUDE ENOUGH to us make me want to walk out of the restaurant the second after he left my table. So much so that I looked very angry when he walked back by and he approached my table asking if something was wrong with the SECOND PLATE OF FOOD I WAS BROUGHT (my original order of lamb and blueberry chutney was so tough that my steak knife wouldn't easily cut through the lamb chop). I replied "there is nothing wrong with this plate, but the way you just spoke to me and what you said was very rude". He instantly made a poor attempt at backpedalling. Luckily his staff is truly friendly. My wife and I arrived at our table and all was well, the staff uplifting and happy. The staff was VERY busy and doing all they could to make every customers' evening pleasant. Our appetizer was delicious- Crab cake that they have changed up since the Weatherford Location. For our Entrées: I had the LAMB WITH BLUEBERRY -- This MEAT WAS SO TOUGH THAT MY STEAK KNIFE HAD TROUBLE CUTTING IT. THE CHOPS WERE FULL OF FAT (the exact opposite of what one expects when ordering such a lean meat). I chewed the first two bites of one of my chops, and was very disappointed, but was hopeful that the next chop would be better. To my dismay, my first cut into the meat offered me a better look at the even greater amount of fat in the second chop(literally half the chop was fat). I then asked my wife to try it to make sure that it wasn't just me. Sure enough, she truly didn't want to chew the bite enough to swallow it because of how tough it was. Our waitress returned and asked how things were, I was hesitant to explain, but went ahead and expressed how I felt about my meal. The waitress set out to make it right by offering me something else without a second thought, so I sent the lamb back and changed my order. Jarett Joslin brought out the meal I had requested, which as he approached seemed like a kind gesture to offer a possible apology (or similar). After he sat my plate down, instead of saying anything kind at all, there was more of what felt like an accusation and interrogation. He prodded me about how the lamb was, and then further quizzed me about the amount of bites I had taken. My wife and I both strongly felt as though he was telling us that we sent the AWFUL LAMB back just to get some free food... Looking back on it, I should have asked the Jerk to bring it out in front of us and try the tough lamb meat himself. That would have been a site LOL. He didn't even ask me to cut into my steak to check and see if it was cooked to my liking... I am not one to complain, nor have I EVER WRITTEN A BAD RESTAURANT REVIEW, and I certainly didn't see this coming from a restaurant owner from a smaller town where reputation and the way you treat people matters so much. My Wife had the Prime Filet, and it was great. REALLY Awesome Tasting The issue here isn't even the LAMB BEING BAD, I understand that things happen. But the way we were treated was just unprofessional and really put a damper on our evening that was going great. Chef Jarett Joslin Was the rudest person I have ever encountered at a restaurant of this caliber. He is very lucky that our waitress and the rest of the staff was AWESOME. In a town like Fort Worth, TX I don' t see a guy like this or his Restaurant becoming a local favorite unless they start keeping him in the KITCHEN AND OUT OF THE DINING AREA.
The first time we went there we were very impressed. Food was amazing, service was great and friendly, they catered to my kids and we left happy even with the amount we spent. We decided to go there again the next time we were in town and had a bad experience that unfortunately turned us off from going again. They took almost 45 minutes to bring our food out and there were only a couple other tables of people there that night do it shouldn't have taken that long. Our kids were getting very impatient. The food was horrible. The fired chicken had too much breading and to little and slimy chicken, the award winning Mac and cheese had a long hair in it, the grapes my daughter got were on the verge of moldy and she wouldn't eat most of them. I couldn't even eat my chicken fried steak. It was chewy and gamey like something from Dennys. My veggies were soggy, too much liquid. I hate to complain but when the server asked if I was going to finish it I caved and told her I didn't like it. She seemed offended, but was kind enough to take it off the tab. I didn't tell her everything else was bad too. We ended up still paying close to $100. Too much for the quality that time. I guess I'd say try it once to see what you think because you might go on a good day like we did the first time.
I love this place! Awesome Chicken fried steak!
THIS WAS TERRIBLE! I know food well, have been on Rachael Ray and hope to soon open my own restaurant. We used a groupon... the waitress was kind and sweet. However the groupon was not labeled with the details well enough. Then, my steak (a filet) was not tender, tasted okay, but not tender and I had to spit out a few bites. The potatoes augratin were underdone as well. I kindly said "this just isn't very good, I don't want anything, just as an fyi" The chef came out, didn't apologize or anything, I wasn't rude. He said the steak looked fine to him, then proceeded to the kitchen, brought out another pile of the potatoes and said 'try these, from the same batch'... to which i said 'they are still crunchy. He said, 'matter of preference'...Nothing comped, no apology, just patronizing. I've never been disrespected that way at a denny's let alone a 'prime steak house' NEVER will be back. Save your money... Go to the Keg on a budget or Ruth's Chris... you'll get a steak you can chew and no condescending attitudes.
