This place has potential but the mediocre food and high prices cannot be overlooked just because it has great atmosphere. My wife and I recently had lunch here to the tune of $75.00 for food that was served luke warm and really no better than some of the popular chain restaurants in the area. We have had better food and service, for half the price, at a steak house across the street. We would recommend Fat Grass for their atmosphere but not really much else.

Over priced for bad food. Edit: Other reviewers rate Fat Grass higher, but note "good at atmosphere, bad food," or, "great for drinks, not for food." I would argue against "good atmosphere," but fine. Either praise is irrelevant if you consider that the chef is from claims to be from Austin, trained in San Antonio, and honed his skills traveling through Europe. The food at Fat Grass is embarrassing. Kitchen staff can't cook a rare steak without burning it: in Europe, I've had a difficult time getting a steak cooked ENOUGH because it's so common to eat rare. Fries are burnt, salad is swimming in dressing, baked potatoes are tasteless, burgers are dry (Whataburger's around the corner FYI), prices are high, but the plates are square y'all. The plates are square, so it's all ok! Moral of the story: Bay City's standards are so low that a "French style trained chef" who was last in his class has been able to procure prime city square real estate and maintain a popular, well reviewed restaurant that's open on Christmas just like Denny's. Disclaimer: Bay City is a small town where everybody knows everybody, but I'm a Dallas foreigner whose opinion has not been bought.
I like going mid afternoon to have a late lunch. The staff is always so nice and attentive. The food is great and the atmosphere is something I can enjoy while sitting near the large front windows. Nice place and great food!
Quite possibly the best service on the planet. The food was incredible. Fresh, original, prompt. We are a hand full and they were more than excellent.
