I have been looking for an authentic style Mexican restaurant for some time that wasn't just another tex-mex place. This restaurant fit the bill for me. My dining companion and I have been to this place twice. The first time, we both ordered their mole enchiladas, something we have been unable to find elsewhere in the area. The sauce had the right notes of flavor that I expect. The second visit, my dining companion ordered their chicken mole. Very different from the mole enchilada, it was very much a mole sauce based dish, and if there was a problem, it was deciding which one of those two we liked better. The second time, I picked a dish not realizing what I would get. I admit, I picked based on the fact that it listed cactus in the ingredients. I got that. I also got a small mountain of meats, meats, meats, and vegetables, including cactus that were cooked together in a large stone crock that resembled a decent size mortar (as in mortar and pestle), but filled nearly to overflowing with food. It was actually a fajita dish, served with some fresh tortilla shells. Once we got over our surprise at this sizzling mountain of food, I dug in, and was very pleasantly surprised by the flavor, which remembered that heat is not the only flavor that belongs in good food. The chips served before the meal were another pleasant surprise. Usually, I'm brushing excess salt off and wishing that I could find low sodium chips. At home, I prefer salt free chips, even though I enjoy salty dishes like ham and corned beef. These chips, while not completely salt free, were very lightly salted, with a reasonably good salsa. I've had better at home, but I've had so much worse, especially at restaurants.
