Gus's Fried Chicken
Reviews
Great Food. Nice road trip destination.
The problem that I have with this place—one I have not experienced elsewhere—is that they actually charge for ordinary tap water. As I recall, they refer to it as an ice charge, but you're charged $.50 whether you take ice or not. Strikes me as petty. The fried chicken is good, but too salty. It reminds me of the time in the Atlanta Underground when I ordered a hot dog and a Coke with no ice, They tried to charge extra for the Coke because I asked for no ice in it. In both cases, cheap management.
You do not go for decor...unless you want Gus's, you do not go for service...unless you want Gus's you go for the FOOD and you definitely want GUS'S WORLD FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN IN MASON, TN.
Several positive reviews drew us to the Mason, TN Gus's Fried Chicken. It was even featured on a Food Network program as a great place to eat. Boy, were we sorely disappointed. It took a solid HOUR to get our food, and we were shorted a piece that was supposed to be "coming right out", but never did. The food was good, but as a native southerner I must say that it was nothing to write home about. I would recommend Jack Pirtle's Chicken as a much better alternative to Gus's any day where you get actual biscuits with your meal rather than sliced Wonder bread.
This is by far the most AWFUL chicken we have ever had and if you people think it is good, then you have never tasted really good Southern Fried Chicken and I'm really sorry for you.
