Market Cafe & Catering
Reviews
The food was great and is a welcomed addition to the typically lack luster restaurants found in our area. It's a shame they're not open for dinner though.
Our favorite place for lunch, coffees, and pastries....esp. the cookies and biscotti
Our weekly bike group stopped here for lunch and I ordered a Tuna wrap, I have to say it was delicious...
I like the Market Cafe but the service is not always so speedy. I think the Market Cafe has great food at reasonable prices (usually $6 to $8 for lunch with a drink). They make great sandwiches and wraps (their menu is on their website) and I especially enjoy their Miles on Ciabatta and their Reuben on Rye. I just need to drop a little warning about the service. It isn't unusual for it to take 15 minutes or even more to get your food even though they do appear to be very busy and ambitious folks. I guess you could say that good food takes time and the problem becomes compounded when they get busy over the lunch hour. Other than that, I do think the workers are generally courteous and friendly (unlike the complaints of a different reviewer). The building and location by the railroad are both quaint and unique but it's deafening when a train roars through, especially if you are sitting outside. Seating is a little limited, especially over the winter when it isn't convenient to sit outside. They have about five tables of varying sizes inside and about 8 or 9 tables outside. While it at first appears that parking is limited, there is actually plenty of parking since the gravel area behind the building is Market Cafe parking. The Market Cafe serves coffee from Reading Roasters and also sells their coffee beans. If you aren't already familiar with it, Reading Roasters is a small, privately owned coffee roasting company located in Birdsboro, PA (near Reading). In spite of the slightly slow service, I highly recommend The Market Cafe. I think their food is much healthier than McDonalds!
The food is always excellent, tasty, and they have a great variety. Their homemade soups are delicious and unique. Wish there were more places like it in our area. The Market Cafe is truly one of a kind.
