Ball & Thistle Pub

I have been there a few timey and upstairs to the main restaurant and I prefer downstairs. The food was very good and the menu interesting. Glad I went and will go again.
My husband and I had not eaten here for several years, because the last time we were there we were not very impressed with the food or the service. Had dinner there tonight with another couple, and the food was fantastic, as was the service. The house side salad consisted of wonderfully fresh mixed greens (NO iceburg, thank you very much), with a nice touch of added sunflower seeds. The mushroom soup was terrific. Their pot roast was delicious (my husband inhaled it - I was almost afraid he was going to lick the plate clean), and an apple glazed grilled pork loin with German potatoes absolutely melted in my mouth. We went early, had a drink at the bar (drinks are well made and not watered down), decided to have dinner, and were initially the only ones in the restaurant, but the place soon filled up, and an excellent guitarist started performing about 1/2 hour before we left. We will be putting this one back on the top of our "where to eat out locally list" again!
Not bad if you're looking to entertain yourself... Both times i've been there the atmosphere has been kind of boring. The food is good though and if you're with good company, it's a great place to chat.
