I was shocked to find such authentic and fantastic food in such a small town. Many of the locals recommended it to us as we visited and we were a bit unsure at first. Walking in, it appears clean but a bit dated. The family that owns the restaurant appears to live above the dining quarters and hang out in a separate dining room with their children. HOWEVER, the food was fantastic and the staff is VERY friendly! Definitely one of the better places to eat in this town!
A member of our little family has serious dietary restrictions: no soy, flour etc. Asian restaurants have always been very accommodating steaming or sautéing assorted vegetables without soy sauce. The waitress at New Hong Kong said all the soy sauce is already mixed with all the vegetables and they cannot do what was requested. She said they could not do it because without soy sauce “it would not taste good.” We simply asked for steamed vegetables and she said they could not do that. We have always patronized Asian restaurants because they prepare many vegetable dishes. We are not vegetarians! We asked if we could ask the chef. She hesitated and then reluctantly said we could. The chef was extremely rude and Yelled: “I don’t have time for you!!!” Let it be noted, it was 1:15 p. m. Sunday, June 6, 2010 and there was only one other table with 5 in the entire New Hong Kong restaurant. So, if you don’t mind being yelled at if you want to make a request, this is the place for you. You might like that show; Hells Kitchen. We do not. We happily support restaurants who actually WANT our business. Remember The Soup Nazi? It was kind of like that!!
The person who wrote the orginal review had some obvious observations and geniune problems. I see someone posted a broken english response to the post they left. Seems to me this screams of "New Hong Kong" writing their own rebutal reviews. Rudeness is just that. Had it happened to me I would have walked out as well. Bottomline an unaccomidating establishment is always a place to leave. Based on the "No vegtables for you" review I would never eat there.
