Stopped here for dinner on my way to Soyuzivka. The food is excellent, the presentation is excellent, the atmosphere is homey and comfortable, the piano playing with jazz and the singing of Cole Porter songs while eating dinner was pleasant and relaxing.
Very few places actually cook food- most thaw & microwave but not this place! I am amazed at the great prices for fresh food cooked to perfection. I love the light jazz on the piano, as it makes this place feel truly welcoming. Each time I go I feel as if I was invited to an Italian home for a Sunday Feast! This is also a place where you can bring your entire family & not go broke or feel out of place if the kids are talking. The service is always nice; no one is ever perfect but these girls do the best each & every time I go. Always smiling & always giving you the daily specials. The place may not look like a Vegas Showroom, but it is very homey inside & more than that THEY WELCOME & APPRECIATE you.
Looks can be deceiving... The scary looking parking lot outside the restaurant kept me away for years but when I finally dared to go inside I was mad at myself for not coming earlier. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable in a hunting-lodge kind of way. There's a bar to lounge around, plus an outside area serving the best oven-fresh pizza in the lower Hudson Valley. I'm not kidding either, Giavanni himself prepares the special order pies in the very brick oven he built. The regular menu is a little heavy and comes in large portions, also it's priced a tad high, but the specials often include Giavanni's hunting and gardening trophies. The place is not for the unadventurous but when you feel like exploring this is the best restaurant around.
The cheesy piano and lounge music (Volare, someone to watch over me) was so loud our party could not talk, and when we asked for the volume to be turned down it was turned up. The service was slow and inattentive with multiple mistakes. The food was hit and miss, good veal, mediocre sauce, tasteless steaks. The atmosphere is unique. The coffee was served lukewarm and weak.
