Glen Gardner Inn
Reviews
Having recently moved to Glen Gardner and literally right down the road from GGI, my husband and I couldn't wait to try out the place. First impressions were great, dim yet comfortable mood lighting welcome you in, the old stone surrounding you almost seems it's whispering old secrets, different china plates on each table give it that Auntie Mae's sunday dinner feeling, a large display of beautiful German crystal sparkles and winks at you as you wait for your waitress which is not long of a wait and of course the beautiful wooden bar waiting for your presence. Our first eating experince at GGI was in celebration of our first wedding anniversary going all out ordering salads, appetizers drinks, entrees and dessert (food heals all wounds!) delictable is the word that comes to mind, every morsal savorier than the last. The presentation as well as the amount of food expertly calculated. To say the least we were entranced, smitten, lured and well we loved the place, we love it so much we go as often as time and money permits. Yes it is a bit pricey but the atmosphere the food and the attention are all worth it. So you ask why 4 stars instead of 5, well every diamond has its flaw.... and at GGI that would be the incredibly microscopic, back breaking, bum numbing chairs! Perhaps a ploy to get the customers moving quicker if so ingenious!
Menu is great and small (tapas) plate option for nearly all of the dishes is wonderful for those looking to share or on a budget. The beer selection is always changing and always inspired. Beer is served in big 20oz imperial pints rather than the standard 14-16oz pints most places.
Went to Glen Gardner Inn for the first time this prior weekend. Crowd is what I would describe as old and wealthy. The bar was nice, but $7 for a pint of Stella is a but much. It took forever to get our first drinks and the waitress was pushy for expensive menu items and martinis. The entrees are in tapas size and regular dinner size - which is fine. I had a hair in my salad and I should have complained. The entrees where excellent, though, and the tomato soup was amazing. Also, they only serve burgers on weekdays, which is why I went there. All in all I was not happy; the crowd old and snooty; the staff was robotic, and the drink prices where way to high (and it took forever). The property was historically restored really well.
Only there for drinks but very nice bar with no televisions so can actually have a nice conversation.
