Waterhouse Restaurant
Reviews
The place is a bit pricey but the food was delicious. We were lucky enough to get a corner table with a good view of the water out the window. I like the decor too. Our server was very nice and attentive. We were "those people" who came in during peak time on a Saturday night and got a table right away; they were willing to shift where a few reservations were slated to sit based on current tables that were likely to finish by the time said reservations were due to arrive - that's a very smart and flexible staff right there. And again, the food was fantastic.
Just came back from a daytrip to Peterborough and LOVE that Waterhouse is now open for lunch. We just had two of the best locally-sourced burgers ever — dining al fresco on their patio by the river — served by a capable staff and overseen by uber-experienced management. Nice job! We'll be back next Saturday...and the Saturday after that...and...
The outdoor patio is fantastic, right next to the river. Very calm relaxing. And the food is very good. Had the haddock (excellent), crab cakes (very good), tuna tartare (excellent), margarita pizza (OK).
We hadn't tried Waterhouse since their opening. While the food was tasty and the atmosphere was nice, the service was appallingly bad. From the time we were seated until we got up to leave was about 2 1/2 hours. The waitress, twice, plopped menus down in front of us and then disappeared for 15-20 minutes. It's not like this was because they were too busy - there were only 4 or 5 tables seated. Furthermore, one of us has a food allergy, which both the hostess and the waitress assured us could be easily accomodated. Well, either there is no communication between the servers and the kitchen, or the kitchen just doesn't give a damn, or they just plain lie to get a bigger tip, because the victim was ill for a couple of days. To top it off, all of this cost about $100. This restaurant desperately needs some management who knows the business.
Wonderful food! I have eaten there a half dozen times and it has consistently been excellent. Great higher-end fare but also the best burgers in town. Don't miss the hand-cut fries with sprigs of fried rosemary.
