Derby Restaurant & Bar
Reviews

We had my Dad's birthday party there. Everyone was served dinner except my father. We waited and waited, no one came out to explain what was going on. Eventually my sister went to the kitchen to ask. The waitress came out and with an attitude said "I gave him his dinner first and he gave it to his wife." Several other people had ordered the same meal. We found out later the kitchen had miscounted the number of meals to prepare. Everyone else was halfway through their dinner before his was served and the ones who waited until he was served had a cold dinner to eat. There was no apology, no explanation until we asked, no offer of his meal being free or discounted. They acted like this was his fault. And of course the 20% tip was already added into the bill. Plus no one was offered the coffee or tea that was supposed to be included with the meal.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food I ordered, I had the grilled pork chops, potato wedges with home made blue cheese dressing, the dressing was very good, the macaroni and cheese was also very good, it tasted homemade I enjoyed it very much.

Where can you go anymore where the owner of the restaurant stops by each and every table to show his appreciation and thanks you for coming in. The Derby is just that place. Jimmy and Carolyn know most people by name and truly do appreciate your business. The addition of the bar area is a positive move for Monroe. It is a very comfortable, relaxing place to drop by for a glass if wine or for dinner. The food is very good and their menu is constantly expanding. Highly recommend it !

A wonderful restaurant! Been in Monroe for years. The calabash shrimp plate or bbq is very good. Service always nice. Usually seated quickly.

The food was okay, but caution average age of customer is 65 or older. So not a ton of flavor.
