Main Street Inn
Reviews
So my girlfriend and I wanted to get out of Florida and get some time in the mountains on a long weekend venture. We had been up in the Asheville area before so looked for something in the area, picked Highlands and found the Main St Inn. We do not do the Bed & Breakfast, small Inn thing often, but we decided to go for it and give this place a try and are glad we did! The place is clean, cozy and comfortable and just looking around must have some fantastic history. If you choose to stay and eat at the Inn the food is great, but of course if nature is your thing there are plenty of places to go close by to satisfy ones need of escaping into the mountains. Did not have enough time to get to all the places we wanted to see, but we'll be back and in talking to the other guests it seemed like we were the only newbies to the place that weekend...return customers always good in our book!
My daughter bought me a weekend at this Inn as a Christmas gift...she paid $200.00 for it. She came to the Inn and picked the room I would have, and the owners assured her that they would put me in that room when I came. Well, I took off work for the weekend and scheduled my stay. When I arrived, the owners were "busy" and tossed me a key and said they would "see me later". My room was NOT the room picked my my daughter and garenteed by the owner...it was an extremely small, dumpy room at the back of the Inn!! The room I was suposed to have was spacious and had a queen bed and a clawfoot tub. The one they put me in was TINY and had a shoddy bathroom with peeling paint and a toilet crammed in against a wall! And NOISY...!!! I sat in the bed trying to watch TV and couldn't due to the horrid racket coming up through the (cracked/leaky) boards of the floor! When I called to say the room was not the promised room and was so noisy I couldn't even hear TV, the owner told me "well, we have a wedding going on and all the other rooms are taken...you can leave and come back another time if you want to"...!!! NO appologies, no NOTHING:( I explained that I had taken off work to come, and he said "well, you can come back some other time". This place is shoddy and the owners give NO service....very selfish, self-serving people here:(:( My daughter is a single mom and a student....I hate that she gave these people her money, thinking she was buying me such a special gift...:(:(:(
I booked a room here because I had business in Cashiers about 30 minutes away and this was the closest room I could find. I arrived at the Inn on April 28th and found an envelope on the counter with my name and room key. Having been in the hotel industry for 23 years and having never stayed at an Inn I got quite a kick out of that. I called my wife and said I must be staying in Mayberry…. Coming from a hotel background I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’ve never stayed anywhere but Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton and the like. So I walked over to my room and started my inspection. I was confident I was going to find a worn dirty room. I walked into the room and to my surprise it appeared meticulously clean. There has to be something I thought. I started my white glove inspection touching the tops of shelves looking for dust. I found nothing. I got on my knees and looked under the bed, surely something is going to scurry around. To my surprise it was spotless, not even a dust bunny. This is all too good to be true I thought so I pulled back the sheets thinking maybe there’s bed bugs. Fortunately there wasn’t. What I found was a newer mattress, which was very comfortable I might add, covered with fresh clean sheets. I got a wonderful nights sleep all three nights I was there. I assumed they were not going to change my sheets and linens everyday so I made my bed and left my first day. When I got back I had fresh sheets, towels and a room that was neat and tidy. I had the opportunity to meet Margie the Inn keeper who was very personable and accommodating. I would highly recommend the Main Street Inn when you visit Highlands. Oh, one last thing. The first and second morning I was there I had to leave very early for business so I did not get to eat the breakfast. My last day was Sunday and I had the time to eat in the restaurant. The food was awesome!
Very clean. Can walk to shops. When we arrived no one was there but a note said they were in Atlanta and to stay with all doors unlocked. Felt very uncomfortable. A lady came to serve us breakfast who could not speak English. Room was very small for the price.
We reserved almost the entire inn for our extended family during our daughters wedding weekend in Highlands and could not have been happier with our choice. The breakfasts were excellent (especially the biscuits!), and the innkeepers and staff were extremely helpful with everything we needed. Staying at the Inn allowed our family to be together and have great access to all the wedding venues. We highly recommend the Main Street Inn and hope we have another opportunity to stay there. Our thanks to Debbie, Gary, and staff for a great stay!
