Mike's Farm

The wait for the hayride was reasonable (less than 30 minutes) on a Sunday during Christmas season. Our group had advance reservations for the restaurant, that made all the difference: we were seated right at the time the reservation was made for. The hayride and the lights were fun, especially for the little ones. My tips is dress warmly and bring blankets to wrap the kids on the hayride. Wish we had thought to bring a thermos with a hot drink, although you can buy small hot (and cold) drinks at the gift store. All of the food was, frankly, mediocre...not even nearly as good as you would have at your nearest Cracker Barrel, and don't even think about comparing it to grandma's if grandma knows how to cook and cooks from scratch. I can't imagine waiting for hours to eat there. I do admire the business acumen of the owners. The farm is obviously hugely popular. For us, it was worth checking out once, mainly for the fellowship and to see the lights.
I was expecting a crowd but all you did was wait. 5 hour wait for dinner...not worth it for a chicken dinner, no dinner in fact. You wait in line to buy hayride tickets, then go get into another line to ride the hayride. The ride was very worth it, but not the wait. Gift shop was nice. Never saw the inside of the restaurant to say the least. We checked on our time and they said another hour, so we waited. When back after an hour and they said an hour and a half...forget it! Very disorganized, no one on staff outside to answer questions. Restrooms DEPLORABLE! AWFUL!! For the hundreds of people, the few they had, 1/2 were out of order and I saw no one to maintain them. They cannot manage the amount of people that come there and someone should have been covering the parking lot. With the ton of money they make, they should invest on a large bathroom facility and staff. I'll probably never go again. Not to wait for that. They did however, have right much for the kids to do. Pet/feed animals, craft stuff, Santa, running/playing. Most seemed to be falling asleep by 8pm still waiting to eat.
My family has gone to Mikes Farm every year for the past 5 years. In the past it has been wonderful. This past year 2013 was horrible! The staff was extremely rude and it seemed as if management has changed. I was extremely disappointed and was hoping it was just a bad day. So my family and I tried again this year and it was even worse. It seemed as if nothing was organized the staff was still rude! It is usually always a 4-5 hour wait but this year it seemed like the staff was purposely telling everyone it was a 10 hour wait so that some didn't stay. When we got our food some of was cold. The waitress was rude and it seemed as if she was trying to get us to leave so she could seat another table. After waiting for 6 hours for a table I was extremely upset that we were rushed. I am extremely disappointed over all and I hope these items change soon. But for now my family and I will not be going to mikes farm.
Per my friend who lives in Jacksonville: This was one of the best eating experiences of my entire life. The food, the service and the atmosphere were sublime. I recommend Mike's Farm to anyone in this part of eastern North Carolina.
Made reservation in advance for the dinner and hay ride. We arrived and were seated immediately and as our request to sit in the out house table was filled. Dinner was great and as always, all you can eat. Then taken to the hay ride light show with no waiting. Great job Mikes Farm and wait staff. We had such a great time that we returned for the Christmas show, dinner and light ride. We will be back.
