Sorrento's Bistro
Reviews
My husband and I had an interesting experience here while on vacation. Two years ago we had dinner here and loved it so we decided to go back again this time. The website listed closing time on a Friday night as 11:00 pm so we arrived just before 10, the restaurant had one other group dining there when we arrived and we were told that we could sit anywhere. Right after sitting down, the waitress came over and told us that they were still serving food but would we mind moving upstairs because they "needed to get some work done" downstairs. My husband and I agreed because we initially thought there was an upstairs portion to the restaurant, but then due to some possible misunderstandings we realized she meant that we were going to be seated in the sushi bar upstairs (a completely different restaurant) but we could still order off of Sorrento's menu and they would have the food brought up to us. My husband and I went ahead and agreed because it was now after 10 and we were worried there would be nowhere else for us to go and eat. The waitress at the sushi bar who was now our server was very polite and accommodating, but this restaurant, that was now apparently acting as a bar/nightclub, was not at all what we had in mind for our dinner experience. We ordered and ate our Italian food, that was delivered up to us and we ate under a cloud of smoke, laser beams, black lights, and loud music. However, the food was delicious (just as it was two years ago), but I wish that we had not paid 60 dollars after being treated so bizarrely. I hope that my tip, which I specifically left in cash, went to the sushi bar waitress and not downstairs to Sorrento's because I have never been so disappointed by a restaurant. Not to mention when we did finally leave, at about 10:40, I noticed Sorrento's had a closed sign on the door. If they were actually closing when we got there at 10:00, it would have been nice for them to just tell us instead of seating us at another restaurant. Not to mention, change your hours on the website if you are not actually open until 11:00. My advice, go here for the great food, but don't expect to be impressed by the staff or experience. Also, if they ask you to move upstairs, maybe just say "no, thank you" and try a different restaurant.
Best on luck Anthony! Jay in Fresh meadows.
Get the mozzorela appetizer. Very good food.
