Splashing Rock Restaurant
Reviews

Food was good, service was poor. Slim food selection for dinner, my first choice (bison bangers)was out of stock. We sat outside and could see nearly the entire establishment between the deck and looking inside the windows. We're fairly positive that our waitress was the only one working the bar and the eight or so occupied tables, inside and out. She was fairly pleasant, but clearly overwhelmed. They did not bring our "included" rice bread until we asked for it after our meal arrived. I've seen the rice bread issue in several other reviews...this seems to be a common "mistake." Ten minutes to get our menu, another ten to get our drink and another 45 to get our food certainly added up. My wife and I were there nearly two hours, twice as long as we anticipated being there. The food was surprisingly good. My wife had the Fettuccini Alfredo and I had the bbq pork ribs. The food earned most of the two stars that this establishment earned from me.

We went to Splashing Rock for dinner the first night we arrived at Grand Superior Lodge (for our honeymoon) and were extremely dissatisfied with everything. The restaurant was pretty slow (5-6 tables while we were there) but we had very slow service. There were dirty dishes literally everywhere. I ordered fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken and a side salad. My salad dressing was good. I didn't receive the rice baguette that was supposed to come with the meal. About half of my noodles were hard and brown. The chicken looked like pork. It was leathery, hard and dry - almost looked as though it was cooked, cut into slices and left under the heater for hours, before making it to my entree. My husband ordered the Whiskey Marinated New York Strip with a salad. His salad was also pretty good. Unfortunately, that was the best part. His potatoes had no flavor. His steak was a whole different story. It was 90% fat. He got about 4 bites of actual meat out of it. The overall best part of this experience was that we had four drink coupons to use, that we got from our lodge reservation. Thank god.

This place was horrible. Bad service. Hair in my burger TWICE! Sent it back for a new one, which took 30 mins. New burger had another large hair in it. Waitress was missing almost the entire meal. Had to ask bartender for tab.

Poor selection and quality of food.

We did not stay at the resort so I can not vouch for it, but the Splashing Rock Restaurant was one of the better restaurants I've ever been to. The atmosphere is lodgy (lots of wood) with great views of Lake Superior. I had the babyback ribs with roasted vegetables and potatoes. My wife had the Brie Chicken. Both were exceptional and come highly recommended. The bottom line is: if you're ever north of Duluth, eat here and you will not be disappointed.
