Cedar Street Cafe & Coffee
Reviews
Great locally-owned restaurant. I stop here for coffee or a redeye americano every time I'm in town. Passed up the continental breakfast at my hotel this morning and went here for breakfast. The gyro omelet beats the heck out of instant oatmeal. Great whole wheat toast!
I ordered a Cuban panini and one side had no ham at all and the whole sandwich was overloaded with mayo the cheese was melted to the point it was like a sauce only one small pickle slice way too thin. Enough already for & 8.50 not your best deal.the waitress stated she would take it off my bill like she was doing me a favor. When I got the bill to my surprise I was charged for my fries and coffee. I usually don't complain but this was too much for me.
My wife and I dropped into the Cedar Street Cafe five minutes after closing time (7:00PM) on a Friday night. The cafe was recommended to us by our hosts at Ruby Bay Cottages, but we had no idea it would be closing so early. The waitress welcomed us, checked with the kitchen to verify they would serve us, and came back with an emphatic yes, no strings attached. My wife had a nice piece of fresh whitefish and chips, which she enjoyed just fine. It was cooked right, and big enough to keep her busy for a good while. I ordered the fettuccine with pesto sauce. The fettuccine was homemade -- an almost unheard of treat in a modestly priced place -- and cooked perfectly. The pesto was homemade, too, and tasted wonderfully fresh and potent. The cafe is decorated with charming murals and well-crafted paintings. It has a comfortable, classy, casual feel. The kind of place you arrive in, and feel like you're a regular after five minutes. The waitress brought our meal promptly and cheerfully, especially considering our awkward late arrival. The owner was in house and checked up on us, too. I even snuck in dessert while my wife finished her fish: a fresh-baked brownie with a scoop of ice cream, and a swirl of caramel sauce. Manistique offers the old-fashioned charm of a small town that has everything, including charming residents, and the Cedar Street Cafe is situated right in the center of it. Stop by, but get there early.
