Cleanliness is is not a given with Chinese/Thai restaurants around Traverse City, most of which smell of mildew and/or ancient cigarette smoke, ingrained in the stained and crumbling acoustic ceilings. We were pleased to find Indo-China Garden in Kalkaska, a short drive from Traverse City, to be clean, tidy, and cozy. Our waitress was kind, helpful, and just the right degree of attentive, so that we felt well cared-for, but not smothered. She was familiar with the menu, and willing to give advice, when requested. Very good. Our dinner came with a choice of egg drop or wonton soup. Our party of two both chose the wonton soup, which was very tasty, but just lukewarm. Maybe, the small soup bowls need to be kept somewhere warmer in the cold winter months. We requested soup noodles, which were fresh, crisp, and tasty. Our meals were perfect. Generously portioned, properly prepared, attractively plated, and appropriately hot when served. General's Chicken was tasty and definitely spicy, boldly hot but not insanely so. My husband said it was the best he had ever had, and General's Chicken is one of his favorite dishes. I always find Almond Boneless Chicken, good old ABC, to be a safe bet. Sometimes, wonderful, sometimes mediocre, but always edible. The ABC at Indo-China Garden was transcendent. The chicken filets were of proper uniform thickness, cooked to exactly the proper degree of doneness on the inside, and with a lovely crisp and flaky breading on the outside. They were served on a bed of fresh and bright vegetables, pea pods, bok choy, broccoli all done to the exact proper degree, neither raw nor overcooked. We were very pleased, and will plan more trips to Kalkaska just to visit this friendly little restaurant again.

I have NEVER had a bad meal at this family owned business located in my home town of Kalkaska. The portions are large and satisfying. The chef cooks to order and will modify any item to your liking! And if you you'd like to change the heat value up or down once the dish arrives--no problem! The egg drop soup is light and full of flavor and the hot and sour soup is my favorite! Yummy place to have in our community. Try it! You will agree.

I love this place! I live in Chicago but I come here every time I go Up North to visit my folks. I always get the buffet. The egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoons are great, and the egg drop soup is absolutely to die for. I have eaten at Chinese restaurants all over the Midwest and I have never found egg drop soup this good. The sesame chicken is also excellent. I can't get enough of their egg drop soup. If I had one near me, I would eat there every day. Sadly, it is not a chain, but a cute little mom and pop joint.

This restaurant had horrible food. The egg drop soup was cabbage broth. The food we ordered that had shrimp in it still had tails on, and they charged us $10.95 for a poy of Tea! When we complained they said that the ticket was written wrong, but didn't even try to fix or explain it to us. The atmosphere was not good either. There were several empty tables with dirty dishes still on the table (from the time we walked in till we left). The service wasn't that great either, because they didn't give us enough menus, we had to repeatedly ask for refils, and as I mentioned he gave us our bill and didn't explain what the exessive charges were. We finally just paid it so we could get the heck out of there. If I could give them No stars I would. If you want Chinese food, then drive into Traverse, don't eat there!

Decent food. The portions were more expensive than anticipated 10-15$ but were large would be easy to share. Go with the steamed dumplings.
