Ambassador Restaurant

Comically bad pizza...The bar and service was fine; the food was a joke. Hard to believe people like this pizza. I would rather have a frozen pizza from a gas station.

This review is for the vegetarian pizza. First let me tell you that I've never had a bad pizza in my life until now. The vegetarian pizza was hardly edible. The only thing to compare it to is a bunch of veggies piled on top of a hardly sauced and hardly cheesed piece of cardboard. There is absolutely no flavor to this pizza. If you're into veggie pizza I would not recommend this one.

We order the tostada pizza and garlic chicken pizza which was good. I liked the atmosphere in the old building and it has a big window in the back with a nice view of the canal and the bridge to hancock. The décor is nice. The pizzas fill up the table. It would be nice if they put the pizzas on risers like many pizza places so they sit up higher giving more space on the table. Also, the plates were six inch appetizer plates. Slightly bigger plates would make more sense here but all in all it was a great place to eat.

Fun, old-timey atmosphere, but you could get the same feel at any number of Keweenaw dive bars. Decent thin crust pizza. Expensive drinks, especially for the area ($6.25 for a Crown/rocks, ~$8 for one of their famous fishbowls) and selection is not as good as other bars. Service is pretty average.

The food here really isn't that fantastic. Basically it's been hyped up over time. I will admit the pizzas are pretty good, but I believe Studio pizza has better pizza. One thing that really peeve's me about the Ambassador is they charge you for every little thing, like you want some ranch? Well that'll be an extra cost. No ice in your soda? extra. The menu selection isn't that huge either, and the prices are pretty expensive. The only thing really worth going for is the pizza and the famous fishbowls, otherwise spend your money elsewhere.
