Cafe De Bangkok

Great Thai and over looking the river. Tom Yum soup was the best we've had and we live down by Boston so have a variety of exceptional Thai restaurants to choose from. I had the Drunken Noodles with chicken and it was exceptional - nice and spicy hot but not too hot, lots of nice fresh basil and vegetables. Excellent. The Misses had Pad Thai, it was good but not enough peanut flavor for her liking, I thought it was good. The view of the river is great and the service sensational. I highly recommend it if your looking for great food in Augusta. The cost was very competitive - a super great value.
the lunch staff keep mixing up the to go orders; it's a real pain to get food back to the office to find it's not what I ordered. Check your order before you leave.
I went here one night to get sushi because Sakura was closed. The sushi was good; high quality fish, good variety, and good and interesting rolls. However it was very expensive, quite a bit more so than Sakura and very expensive for Augusta. The other food was more reasonably priced and my party said it was good as well. The service was also extremely slow the night I went, but it was pretty crowded and I think there was a problem with something we ordered. Overall a pretty good but expensive restaurant (for sushi at least).
We've been spending summers in the Hallowell area for five decades, eating most of our meals out. This routine forces our exploration of "local" restaurants, meaning those within (say) 20 mi of our Litchfield home base. Several are in Hallowell, and our favorite of these is Cafe de Bangkok. We love Thai food, and immediately discovered the Panang Crispy Duck Curry, Masamun, and soft-shelled crab rad prik. Spectacular dishes, all. It took us a while to extend our adventure to their sushi, first as an appetizer to a fine Thai entree (a good plan!) but eventually to sushi-only meals. We spend the other 9 months of our year in Boston, and are used to fine restaurants there. But we have to rate Cafe de Bangkok among the best of our favorites, certainly our favorite Thai even including Boston Thai restaurants -- and, fittingly, at a price in the same range as the best Boston Thai restaurants. This place is a gem, and we're glad to see it thriving. Maine needs more restaurants that aspire to CdB's level of greatness.
The food was just ok. The restaurant could have been cleaner for our liking. The service was very nice.
