Manor Tavern

I had a birthday luncheon in the Saddle Room, and everything was perfect. The week prior had been hectic, and plans had to be changed at the last moment. Terry, the banquet manager, was great - always cheerful, always helpful. The prime rib was delicious, and everyone loved the tortellini and the chicken. There was a fireplace had a nice fire, and the two servers were perfect: attentive without being intrusive. On a cold day, the room was warm and inviting. Because some of my family were unable to come due to a last-minute crisis, I'm planning a second one for them later in the month. I can't think of a nicer place, and its location in the country makes it easy (traffic-free) to get there, and parking is convenient, easy, and free. To me, The Manor Tavern lacks nothing.
I might be biased, I practically grew up in the Tavern. I returned for the first time in over ten years and of course, they did not disappoint. Staff was extremely friendly, food was great and I was pleased to see that the prices appeared to have come down slightly over the past few years. This is a great restaurant with a friendly bar. Love the Tavern!
The Manor Tavern is 2 minutes from our home and I have been going there since my 20's (turned 41 yesterday) and we have been really enjoying eating here since the new owners bought it. We went here for my birthday yesterday and our meal was amazing! We ordered the Angels on horseback, Kale chips and truffle fries for appetizers. The oysters were tender and lightly breaded with just the right amount of spices, not too salty, really good. I was the only one who enjoyed the Kale chips, but my son 7, did at least try them. Loved the sweet chili pepper sauce that the came with too. The truffle fries were a hit with all four of us, so delicious! Knowing that they grow everything fresh, in their garden right outside the restaurant, I never miss the chance to order something with veggies. I ordered the grilled romaine with root vegetables, crumbled feta, sunflowers seeds and fig dressing. Let me say that it is a whole head of romaine cut in half so this is a meal in and of itself. It was perfect! The carrots and beets were roasted perfectly and feta was so fresh and creamy. I couldn't eat the other half and of course I brought it home and it was breakfast this morning ;-). Our kids got the salmon and mini manor burger and they were very happy with their meals because we didn't hear a word from them due to lots of chewing and not much talking. My husband ordered the Gunpowder Bison burger and it was of course, just fabulous. Gunpowder Bison is also right up the road from us and buy from them a lot as well. In fact if I were going to eat a burger ( I do on occasion) I would rather have Bison, it tastes like a beef burger but it is lower in fat and calories and higher in nutrients. Make sure you buy from a local farmer though, much of the Bison they sell in grocery stores were fed on feedlots. The service is always great the only thing I would spruce up is the décor. It is a little stale with the dried flowers and paint should be lightened up, the buttery yellow just doesn't work. So glad "the Tavern" has incorporated all of this fresh, local food into it's menu. If you are a "foodie" you will love this place. Very memorable birthday meal, we will be back. Perhaps this week end :-) -Rebekah DeLibro
We stumbled on the Manor Tavern by accident. It seems "that even a blind turkey finds an acorn every now and then". While waiting for the thick fog to lift to view the fantastic sunflower display on the farms near Monkton , we decided to do a Sunday morning breakfast. Thinking we were likely miles from a restaurant, we used our GPS to seek the nearest breakfast place. To our amazement we found that we were only 3 miles from a 'Manor Tavern'.. so we decided to try our luck. Wow, what a surprising treat we enjoyed. The granola pancakes, eggs, house-potatoes, and coffee were outstanding and the friendly and efficient service was tops. We MUST re-visit the Manor Tavern for dinner in the near future!
Excellent food and awesome service! Try the Beer Can Chicken or the Mac-n-Cheese Burger (it just won Best Burger from the Heavy Seas Brewery burger competition). The cocktails are also delightful (especially the Gentleman's Fig)! It's great for special and not-so-special occasions, and definitely worth the hike to the country.
