It doesn't get any fresher than this. Sitting on Menemsha Pond (location for the filming of "Jaws," the fisherman bring the baskets of lobsters right off the boat and into Larsen's tanks. If the lobstermen are there when you are, you can pull one right off the boat, weigh it, pay the friendly helpful staff and be on your way. The sushi grade tuna, perfectly fresh salmon (off island), and oysters from Vineyard waters can all be found under the glass. Our swordfish steaks cut with a fork, were buttery and delicious and needed only some seasoned salt. Larsen's turns over their inventory quickly, so its best to get there early in the morning. The small seafood focused grocery has all the sauces, seasonings, and kitchen implements like lobster crackers and seafood tongs as well as prepared items items like stuffed clams, lobster rolls, chowders, and you can even get oysters on the half shell while you wait. With Vineyard restaurants so expensive, spend a few bucks and have a first class fresh seafood meal at a fraction of the cost. Plenty of big private boats and nice beach to kill time in this quiet part of the island.

This is a can't miss stop every time we go to MV. The seafood here is fresh and much cheaper than at the island's restaurants and other stands. The stuffed clams and lobster rolls are almost half the price we've paid at other places, much larger, and fresher. The service is great too. This is also the location of the original 'Jaws' movies, or so I've been told.

It's hard to imagine that I'd give five stars to any place that's best amenity is a set of screen doors and some fish tanks. However, the seafood slingers at Larsen's absolutely deserve each star, if not six. Heck, if this were Michelin, it'd be three stars, because I'd travel far for this experience. You drive to a distant point on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Along this essentially fisherman's wharf, there is one seafood shack, then Larsen's, then a Texaco that looks 80 years old. At the end there is a beach, along one side is a (surprisingly clean) public restroom, often visited by fishermen; along the other side, an active pier for commercial boats. In the middle is Larsen's, and as far as we can tell the only place on Earth. Before coming to the island we received input from numerous people, with a variety of recommendations. The most consistent from everyone was this little shack. Turns out the family at Larsen's supplies a good portion of the seafood to the island and own other shacks as well. However, we were in love here. Everything was so fresh! We stopped in one day, spent over $80 on lightly steamed shellfish and lobster rolls before 11am; we were back the next afternoon and spent over $100. And the six of us considered that cheap! Some of what we ate: the cleanest littleneck clams (lightly steamed) we ever had. We were told these littlenecks tend to not suck in sand so they don't even need to be spit. Very sweet mussels, lightly steamed. 3-4 lobster rolls (hot), we asked for no butter, it's served mayo-less (you can add tartar sauce or chipotle mayo, they're both solid). These were hands down the best lobster rolls we've had, far surpassing anything from Maine! We ate a three pound lobster, which was a bit over-cooked and tough. We ate numerous Katama bay freshly shucked oysters; holy cowsers, they were phenomenal, we kept asking for more. We ate freshly shucked raw littlenecks. We have to say all the raw food was shucked expertly, with maximum liquor and minimal grit. We ate wonderful, sweet steamers, lightly steamed. And we had quahogs, which were good but no better than others we've had. There was always plenty of lemon, sauces, and horseradish to be had. but we barely used any. Nothing needed it! We also tasted a variety of prepared items, the stuffed clam, crab cake, and soup, but all were mediocre. Just don't waste your time, focus on the golden pot, them came from the steam pots. It's worth however long your trip takes.

It's what you imagined and want a Vineyard fishmonger to be: a veritable shack on the dock with fishing boats right out the back door. Besides the friendly service and excellent selections, what could be better than eating a dozen fresh-shucked oysters right outside, sitting on a wooden box with a lobster pot as a table? Decor? This is perfect.
