Outback Steakhouse
Reviews
Had dinner there last night. Let me start by saying that our server was outstanding and that is were it all goes down hill. I ordered a mojito and it never came, the server went to check on it and he had to tell me that they ran out of mint so they couldn't make the drink. I ordered a salad, one of their specials. The lettuce looked like it had seen better days, I think I saw half of a cherry tomato and a little piece of bacon, there was some chicken on top that had hardly any flavor. Not going back there.
Unfortunately, we were not at all pleased with our experience at this location. We arrived early, shortly after opening, so while traffic was not slow, neither was it so busy that it might explain the lack of service experienced. The hostess showed us to our table quickly, but forgot the crayons for our children, so we had to go up to the front to request them. Our waiter was not personable or particularly friendly, and we waited for a while before being acknowledged. After this, he continually forgot just about everything--bread, drink refills, appetizer plates--until it bordered on the ludicrous. When our food arrived, we were disappointed in the size of the appetizer--on previous visits, the serving had been larger, but it was still listed at the same price. The entrees (steaks) were not cooked very well, and the flavor was not particularly impressive. As we have had prior mediocre experiences at this location (although this was the first truly BAD one), we will likely not be going back any time soon.
We should have listened to friends about how bad the Outback in Gonzales was. But we have always enjoyed Outback so we decided to go. Our server was Hailey, and I do not know the manger’s name, but he was a young man with dark hair. We decided to go with “No Worries Wednesday.” My husband asked Hailey about choosing the $30 option and she said “Yeah, I guess so if that is what it says.” That probably should have been our first clue that this was not going to be a good experience. She took our order and left. She brought the appetizer and dropped it off at the table and left, before my husband to ask her for a re-fill. I got up and went to the bar to see if we could possibly get a re-fill. Hailey came out of the kitchen area and snapped at me and said that I could have just asked her for a re-fill. I wanted to tell her that if she would have stopped for a second when she dropped the food off we would have, but I just handed her the glass and went back to our table. She brought the drink the same way she brought the appetizer. When I noticed that another table receiving their salads, I asked my husband if Hailey had asked us how we wanted our salads and he said no. The next time Hailey was walking by our table my husband got her attention and asked her about the salads. She snapped, “You only get one side with what you ordered.” My husband then told her that it also said we got a salad or a soup. Hailey’s grouchy response was “I don’t know, I’m new.” He then told her that if she wanted to go get a menu he would show her what it said. She then rudely asked “Well do you want a salad now or not?” We said yes, and she rolled her eyes and started to storm off. At that point we noticed that we had never received bread...or even been asked if we wanted any. I asked my husband not to say anything, because I was already concerned about what the attitude that we were getting from Hailey. Another waitress brought our food out. A few minutes later the manager brought the salads out and my husband asked for steak sauce (since Hailey had not been back by to ask us if we needed anything). My husband had ordered the 12 oz Outback Special Medium. The steak was completely raw. It looked like it was seared and that’s it. It was even cold on the inside. Hailey dropped off the steak sauce and took off, the same way she had done everything else. We waived down the manager, since he had not come back to ask us if everything was ok, and my husband asked what he would consider the steak to be. After staring at it for a while, he said “I don’t know...maybe medium.” He then walked off. At no time did the manger ask if the steak was ok or if he wanted to send it back and have it cooked some more. I asked my husband to please send it back, because it was making me sick watching him try to eat it. He said no, if that is what they considered medium, that is what he ordered. Additionally, with the attitude we had already seen at the restaurant, he was worried about what they would do to it if he sent it back. My husband took a picture of the steak and posted it on Facebook asking “What would you call this?” Every response was either raw or rare. He ended up “skinning”(cutting the outside edges off) the entire steak and eating that. When Hailey finally walked by again to see if we wanted dessert, there was at least a 6 oz piece of raw meat laying on his plate. She finally asked (for the first time) is everything ok. He asked her what she would consider the steak that was on his plate and she said it looked rare to her. He advised her we did not want dessert and asked if we could get the check. This was the absolutely worse experience at a restaurant we have ever had. The food was sub par, the service was horrible, and the management was non-existent. I can guarantee you that this will be the last time we go to Outback. You can also add us to long list of individuals who well tell people NOT to go to this Outback.
I should have trust my gut and gone to Texas Road House, they have the best steak for sure. As I kid I always remember the Steak being good at Outback, but my cut was horrible. The cooking was fine the cook prepared it as well as she or he could. The meat was riddled with sinue and as I chew it grew bigger. My steak became a chore to eat rather than a pleasure! The steak was also old, it did not bleed once during my crusade to eat the non eatable. Please consider before eating.
