Loved it! The ambiance is wonderful and the menu varied and freshly cooked. Saturday not only was the greeter/waiter/owner the historian on site, he was also the cook! It was a delightful experience!!
The prices were amazing especially given the quality of food.
Top notch! Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Everything is authentic and home made. Enjoyed my time there. As mentioned, the owner is the local historian. He & his wife really care about the place & are volunteers. He loves to give history lessons about Council Grove & has a lot of stories to tell. Cheap usually means low quality but not in this case. Must see when in Council Grove!!
This place is first rate! The food was excellent. The service was great. This was some of the best food I have had in a restaurant. You can tell they really care and want to provide a great product. I have some German coleslaw on the side and it was the best I have ever eaten (even in Germany!) As a bonus, the owners are very willing to visit with you about the history of Council Grove. In fact, the owner is the local historian. They also renovated this outstanding historic building. The renovation was done in a historically accurate way with no apparent short cuts. Forget the Hays House!...go here instead. Did I mention it was cheap as well?
