People here are nice and patient: I went there to do a mechanical inspection for a used car. They carefully checked everything and then showed me all the details of the problems, for some of those I didn't quite understand, they patiently explained how they works and what would happen.... Finally they gave me a detailed nice report about the car.
The last part of the exhaust pipe, right before the muffler, broke because of rusting. They gave me two options. One, replace the whole muffler($300 to $400 ). Second, cut a bit of the tube and weld them together($80). I chose the second however have doubt for future replacement of the muffler this would cause extra trouble.
People there are very friendly and responsible to customers. They would do testings based on customer needs and generate report. I don't feel they tried very hard to sell stuff to us. I think I will continue to use their service.
Great Service and very kind people: It was Saturday. I was visiting my family at West Lafayette and had a long road trip back home ahead of me. The car started to get noisy and we were not comfortable driving it back for 10 hours. Well, it was 12 pm on Saturday. I went to a few shops around town - they are all busy and almost closing up for a weekend. Did not even want to look at the car. Car-X guys were busy too, but they saved my day (and a weekend!) by agreeing to look at the car 1 hour before they close, finding the problem (it was minor) and fixing it! On a top of that - they did not even charge me for that minor repair. I felt that really good driving my family with two little kids back home knowing that the car is safe to drive. Thank you!
I took my car in because the breaks were grinding. Every time the mechanic spoke to me, I felt as if I was being disrespected. They seemed to be telling me things that would purposefully make me upset and render me unable to make a clear headed decision. I got my car there an hour before close and was told "It needs a lot of work. I need to take some things apart to see how much work, but there is a chance it won't go back together again." I got a call the following Monday and was given an estimate of $1400 because basically everything that had to do with my brakes needed replaced, and was told my car was not safe to drive. I couldn't afford it, and also combined with the sense of disrepect, I told the mechanic I would be taking my car elsewhere for a second opinion and he said very smugly "I'm sure anywhere else you take it will tell you it needs everything I said done." I did take it elsewhere. The second place, without knowing what I was told at Car-X, said my brakes did need work, but the price range was much more reasonable, and they also did not think an entire overhaul of my braking system was necessary. I will not be returning to Car-X for any reason.
