I gave the Nashville House a loved it rating because of the fried biscuits!!!!!! T he biscuits and apple butter are amazing!!!! You have to go there just for them. The food is way overpriced, it's ridiculous. I got a simple ham and cheese sandwich with green beans and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered another type of sandwich ( I can't recall right now) with green beans and mashed potatoes, but the bill ended up being 30+ dollars. I looked at the receipt and was flabbergasted!!! I could have gone to the store and paid 5.00 for my entire meal!!! Plus our waitress was so rude that I couldn't enjoy the time spent with him. When I asked her to bring some more biscuits she rolled her eyes, then when she brought out more for us she said "You better make sure you eat those biscuits I had to bring out for you". She was an older woman to, what's worse is we didn't even do anything to p*ss her off, I didn't complain about the bill and I was friendly to her, only to get it thrown back in my face. My suggestion, order the sassafras tea and then keep asking for biscuits. Otherwise you are going to be nailed hard with a 30+ bill.
We visited this place on 3/22/14, wanting to try something new and local. However, what we received were below par for the prices they charge. We ordered the ham and cheddar sandwhich and salad bowl. The meat on the salad is laughable as to it's existence. They ran out of ranch dressing. (How does that happen with a CVS and an IGA around the corner?) Few perks were the fried biscuits and the bread for the ham sandwhich. Will not recommend this place to anyone. Will not be going back.
PRICEY for what it's purported to be and what you actually get. Home cooked food? I think not! And our waitress was a grouch! Four of us dined there last week, two of us getting the fried chicken and two the baked ham. The chicken was crispy, tender and moist but like the rest of the food lacked flavor. The ham was sliced VERY thin, was dry and the portion very skimpy. The green beans were straight out of a can. The potatoes were creamy but again no flavor. The gravy tasted like flour. The apple butter was cinnamony. Fried biscuits...plain biscuit dough dropped in hot grease...nothing more. The only high point of the dinner beside the price and apple butter was the coleslaw, which was fresh and well-seasoned. $14.95 (and that was the "special!") for a skimpy piece of dry ham or two little pieces of chicken, the biscuits and apple butter, coleslaw, potatoes and gravy, and green beans. There is better quality food to be found in Nashville Indiana and at a much more reasonable price served by friendly people.
Returning to Lousville from my cousin's wedding in Indianapolis today, my sister and I decided to visit The Nashville House Restaurant, a place I remember from excursions to Brown County with my family as a child. I could just smell those fresh hot fried biscuits in my mind....... HOW is this place still in business? The biscuits and apple butter were good, but homemade rolls served with cheap margarine? Only a few "dinner" options are available, ham, fried chicken, "roast beef" ribs with 2 sides. Just awful, instant watery mashed potatoes, either instant gelatinous powerded gravy mix or just heated from a can, canned green beans with a few bits of ham-(served lukewarm). We had the roast beef and ribs. I cannot even compare the horrible stringy roast beef to the worst ever served in a school cafeteria. My request to NOT sauce the ribs was met with the information that the owner will not allow the ribs to be served without sauce, but she would bring them "lightly" sauced. My plate arrived swimming in a disgusting overly sweet goo. Each dinner with no drinks cost about $25.00. No fried biscuit is worth a visit there even for nostalgia. Stay Away!
We came here for lunch for our first trip to Nashville in. food was way overpriced around 14.00 per person and the food left us with a upset stomach the only good thing I can say is the biscuits and Apple butter were good but for 8.50 per person
