Corndance Cafe

As one reviewer put it, the prices are on a level with Chicago, the food is not. We have eaten there twice and neither time was a good experience. This last time the food took a long time to arrive and when it did it was cool, almost room temperature. The presentation with the sword was cute. My wife said she could see it setting in the pickup window of the kitchen for over ten minutes before being brought to our table. The servers and the host were pleasant and attentive. The biggest thing that we disliked was the snobby way the other people in the restaurant sneer at each other. We felt like we were being looked down upon. We were groomed and dressed well, but felt like we were no in the clique. Maybe the snobby people in town all know each other and knew we were not local. My wife mentioned it to me several days after our meal and I agreed, but I thought it was just me feeling it at the time.
tasty food, nice decor, friendly staff, but slightly overpriced I started off with an appetizer, the bison bites. They were my favorite part of the meal; the meat itself had great flavor and the sauce was killer. It was a relatively small appetizer, consisting of about 8 to 10 bite-sized portions. The small portion of the appetizer turned was not a recurring theme. The rest of the meal, including the complimentary bread, were ample in portion size. For the entree, I went with the 12oz NY strip steak with a garlic asiago crust. The steak itself was tasty and cooked as I wanted, though I will say the garlic asiago crust was hardly discernible. The steak came with two sides; I opted for the wild rice and french fries. I also added the pepperjack mac. I wasn't impressed with the wild rice, but the fries were near perfect. The pepperjack mac was delicious after it cooled down a bit; it was served scalding hot (by design). I had a couple of beers from the local Evil Czech brewery. The bartop was a neat copper surface. High points: bison bites, pepperjack mac, service, beer Meh: garlic asiago crust, overall value
My wife and I were looking for some place special to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary last Sunday. My wife had read about the Corndance Cafe in "Midwest Living". I looked it up on my iphone and the website said they were open Sunday from 11AM to 9PM so we called about noon for reservations. Their answering system repeated the same open hours but we had to leave a message. They said they would call back. Since we live about an hour & 15 minutes from Culver we decided to go ahead and leave expecting we'd get a call on the way. We got there about 1:30 PM only to find they were closed. They didn't open until 5:00 PM. We had just finished a wonderful meal at Papa's restaurant in Culver when we got a return call from Corndance. If the Corndance Cafe doesn't manage their website or their outgoing phone answering messages, I wonder, how do they manage their kitchen?
Excellent food with a comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff
We had a terrific dinner here. Pleasant atmosphere and super staff. Local bison meat is a specialty. We liked the clever presentation of green bean fries.
