One of the top restaurants in the Magic Valley. Great atmosphere, expensive for the area, but the food justifies the price. Reliably good food, the parking lot is always full.
On arrival told there was a ten minute wait and given a "beeper". Ordered drinks in the bar, after 20 minutes saw empty booths, asked and suddenly were seated. Waitress took orders from others seated after we were. Eventually got her attention, got menus, and ordered.Told us she saw we had wine and thought we were "taken care of". Waited 35 minutes - no food, while others got theirs. Decided to leave. Spoke to "manager" - very young man who asked us if we had anything to take care of ? I guess pay for before leaving. Clearly not interested in our experience or any interest in making it right. Would never return and advise others to do the same. If staying at Shilo Inn , they encourage going with 10% off offer. Don't bother.
This place could be better. The service is dysfunctional, and so are the cooks. The waitress assigned to us never actually helped us, someone else had to do it. The waitress actually helping us was running everywhere helping too many people at once to make up for the absence of the other. It took a long time to be seated, took a long time to get drinks, to order food, to even get the check. I ordered the filet steak and the steamer clams. Another person ordered pasta and the third person ordered a burger. We waited a long time to get our food and when we did, it came all at once. Everything was almost cold except for the steak, which was sizzling hot (the steak was the only good part of the meal, I shared it with my friends.). Someone let the other meals sit at the pass until the steak was done, instead of giving them to us one at a time. The clams were not well cleaned before cooking, either. They still had a bunch of sand in them! And the sauce was not evenly mixed. I'd eat one gritty morsel, and it would taste purely of wine sauce. Bite another, it tasted only of melted butter. You could see the cooks from across the restaurant, and you could tell that there were people who knew what they were doing, but also that most of them were disorganized. The poor exhausted waitress didn't even notice to give us the bill until 2 of us got up and left. The last friend didn't give her a tip. Unless they get a better staff, don't go there.
This unassuming bar and grill is not to be missed by the passing traveler. Like any smaller town place, results may vary. What you get for taking a chance is potentially one of the most unique dining experiences you are likely to find in southeastern Idaho. For a treat, ask for the flatiron rubbed in coffee grounds (not on the menu). Pair with a red or the Idaho Black (a serious must try) for a totally unique flavor experience. Come ready for the relaxed atmosphere and chit-chat and you won't leave disappointed.
Ate there twice in one week. Overpriced and below average food. On the first occasion I had the open sandwich Lobster, Avocado and four cheese sauce. Basically, cheese sauce on toast with a few scatterings of avocado on the side and lobster barely to be seen, let alone tasted. On the second occasion I had the Avocado and lobster salad. Again, barely any lobster or avocado. Service ok but not outstanding given the prices they charge. I won't be eating there again for sure.
