We had another wonderful dining experience at "The Peppertree at the Depot" in Grinnell last night. The food was great, the service was great, and we love the atmosphere of the restored depot. The only thing missing was a train. (Better odds for that experience at lunch!). My wife got the Chicken Brushetta Pasta, which was excellent and a large enough portion for lunch later in the week. I got one of their classic steaks with garlic mashed potatoes and an add-on 4 shrimp to make my own "Surf & Turf" combo. I also got the opportunity to educate our waitress on the "widget" in the cans of Guinness beer! A great dining experience for a very reasonable price

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a meal at the Depot Crossing recently and, seeing the previous negative review, I felt I needed to speak up. We both had a sirloin steak (with sides), a glass of wine, and an artichoke dip with bread. Let's begin: The steak was an inch thick and very tender. No steak sauce required. I had mine medium; my theory on steak is if I'm eating at Applebee's I'll have it well done and use 57 sauce, but if I'm at a place that serves a good steak I'll have it medium. The sides were good, but nothing special. The place had a sweet blush wine for her and a nice full bodied red wine for me. Overall I enjoyed the meal. The artichoke dip appetizer was delicious and worth a special visit (presuming you were passing by Grinnell anyhow). The service was acceptable (for me, the best "service" is acceptable because I simply want an efficient and invisible waiter / waitress to bring food and take away plates). Downsides: the price was $40 for two people, which is isn't bad but a bit steep for Grinnell, Iowa. Also the wine glass was not crystal and, while clean, wasn't spotless. Overall: 3 / 5 stars (1 star = Applebee's; 5 star = 1+ Michelin Star). I'd definately eat here again.

Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. The meal took over 2 1/2 hours. First they forgot to cook 2 members of our party's meals. They did offer to make it half price which they forgot when they got the bill and were extremely rude when reminded them. Next we ordered a bottle of wine and they brought a more expensive bottle told us it was the version we ordered and then charged us extra because we didn't catch their mistake. The waitress got three orders incorrect. The night was ruined by the service which is unfortunate because the food was pretty good. DO NOT COME HERE.
