Ames Cupcake Emporium
Reviews
Horrible cupcakes. I am a fan of rich foods, but there was way too much sugar in these. I couldn't finish one of them. Due to the price, I intended on only buying two for my father for his birthday, but after the girl got them boxed up, she told me I had to spend over a certain amount to be able to use a debit card, otherwise I'd have to pay cash. That would have been nice to know beforehand! So I bought another stupid cupcake, and after tasting the first, it went in the trash. This place is only good if you want cupcakes that strongly taste like raw sugar with a hint of whatever flavor you picked. There is an art to baking and obviously they haven't discovered it yet. I've never gone back, and I never intend to.
Everyone who says they hate probs hasent been there
Stick with the cupcakes. I got a malt once and it was like thick milk when handed to me. Upon complaint, I was not offered any refund or new one. What horrible customer service by the young girl working there.
My family and I have been a regular at Cupcake Emporium for quite some time. We love their cupcakes. I've had many cupcakes and these are by far my favorite. The flavors are great and very creative. The thing going against them is that that are located in Ames -- if they were located in the Twin Cities or San Francisco (or Des Moines even) you'd never be able to get in, but for the most part Ames is rather conservative when it comes to food. They're amazing, but their formula would likely work better in a larger city. For those saying they are dry, I disagree. They are dense, but not dry. I appreciate them being dense because they do not fall apart when being unwrapped, and it drives home the point they are made from scratch. Do yourself a favor and try their cupcakes. If you don't like them, stick to Duncan Hines (and you'll get the fluffy cupcakes you love), but for me, it's Cupcake Emporium all the way.
I really like this place. The cupcakes are tasty and we usually pick up some homemade dog treats.
