Makoto is not another sushi place. But more a modern Japanese restaurant offering delicate meals. Spicy tuna on crispy rice is an must taste. Sea bass is always fresh. Watercress house salad is delicious. All kinds of tasty Rices. For meat lovers you can go for the Kobe filet. Service is efficient and clean. You should avoid busy weekend hours and definitely make a reservation for parties of +2.

The sushi bar is one of the best in S. Florida. The options are more fusion than classic sushi. The quality of fish was excellent and the selection broader than most. The bar itself is beautiful including a proper serving step, allowing the chef to place one or two pieces at a time on our geta keeping it as fresh as possible. When sushi was served, the chef used his own nikiri sauce, a rarity nowadays. Our excellent omakase meal ran $85 +liquor.

A gem in the Bal Harbour Shops. The mixed Asian grill concept has taken off in Miami (Sugarcane, Zuma) but Makoto is the best of the bunch. Menu offerings are creatively daring but not overwhelming. The scene is much more subdued, in large part to the smaller space and more sedate decor. Waitstaff was extremely knowledgeable. A great destination for groups happy to share small plates. Only the dessert options (a bit predictable) fell short.
