@ the Corner

My wife and I stopped here for lunch on Labor Day. Nice pub atmosphere and not crowded at all. Drinks came promptly, but two sandwich orders took approx 30 minutes to arrive. One order was correct, the other was a completely different order. The waitress walked away not giving us a chance to explain the mistake. We decided to keep the order considering how long the wait time was. A side order was not brought out until we were almost done with our meal at which time we explained the mistake. Apologies were given and the bill was adjusted to reflect the change in price of the meal. Paying the bill proved to be another adventure with no one coming to the table to take our credit card and tab until I rose from my seat to bring the bill to a front counter. The bar tender saw me get up with the folder in my hand and rushed over to take it. Again, apologies offered and we left. Our meals were sandwiches in pub style where faster service is usually the norm and orders are not difficult not elaborate entrees. Cold beer and a sandwich? Not this time.
I live in Litchfield, and @ the Corner is my favorite place in town by far. I've eaten here a dozen times in the past couple years and never had anything less than a wonderful experience. Sitting in the bar is my favorite, at one of the high-tops with a great view of the world outside, eating pulled pork or fish and chips, drinking a great margarita (they don't do frozen but so what)--restaurants don't get any better than this. Some of the negative reviews of this place on the web mystify me. I have never found it to be anything other than a pleasant, affordable, enjoyable place. Try it and see.
Four of us recently had dinner At the Corner. The service was friendly and attentive. The table was attractive. I had the honey glazed salmon on risotto which was delicious. The duck and pork chops were also excellent. My husband had steak (wrapped in a pastry - I forgot what it is called). It was okay; he said next time he would try something different. The chocolate cake with the warm chocolate filling was wonderful. The bill (including a bottle of wine and 3 beers) came to about $150. Although there were other diners there, it was quiet and we could easily hear each other speak. (At some restaurants we have to shout so we appreciate it when it is nice and quiet.) We like the atmosphere here. The building is very old and charming. The walls are brick and the lighting is attractive. Lots of appetizing choices on the menu. We are going back next week for a special Christmas dinner with friends.
