The Woodward House
Reviews
high end fine dining catering to weekenders and retirees. special events for certain locals. the food is indeed great but value becomes a question.
selected from the internet... we were plesantly suprised. Food, servise, and atmosphere were excellent!
the food is pretty good french faire. unlike what was said in other reviews, the portions are very reasonably sized, and the presentations are sophisticated. the service when we dined was done by the owner/wife, and was adequate. the food is especially good considering that it is in bethlehem connecticut, not exactly a food mecca. now for the atmosphere: the "muzak" could not have been worse, as we had to sit through two miserable hours of Kenny G drivel. i felt like i was in an elevator or stuck on hold with the cable company. the colonial building itself is quite nice, but the artwork covering just about every inch of wall-space is absolutely horrible and intruded on my mental space while dining. the artwork could not be worse. the food is good, so i wonder if the atmosphere is keeping people away, as the restaurant seems like it is often fairly empty. the owners would do much better to embrace the colonial heritage and get rid of the terrible artwork, replace it with colonial period reproductions, and either play no music or put on some classical or baroque music. also, they should lose the tacky glass plates set on the table for arriving tables.
