Simple Bliss Vegan Cafe
Reviews
DO NOT EAT HERE!! Their food was garbage. They give vegans a bad name. They have No love for their food or customers. I don't ever write reviews but I feel compelled to save others from experiencing possibly the worst restaurant ever. I'm vegan and I would have rather eaten at McDonald's than this place. Oh and they are extremely over priced. I'd be shocked if they are still open 6 months from now!
Passive-aggressive cook/waitress/manager?. Essentially called us stupid for asking if all pancakes were gluten-free when only one is labeled as such in the menu. Last time I checked vegan does not equate gluten-free, so it is a fair question. For $14 you can certainly have separate batter and pans, don't be so lazy! I understand the limitations, but calling what we were served pancakes is a stretch. It was just edible and super over-priced. Dangerously close to $50 for two orders of pancake, one (1) muffin and an orange juice ($9 and far from amazing.) Waitress made a big point of the fact that tip can be given... Don't think so! Location itself is OK, with some cool reading and they avoided the cliché of blasting wind chimes and whale mating chants. I suggest the staff have a nice juicy steak rich in proteins to help with the mood swings, relax a bit, learn how to cook better, write a clear menu and have sane prices! On my side I will pay more attention to prices on menus.
THE GOOD: (1) I am really excited that South Lake Tahoe has a vegan restaurant; (2) the food here is really delicious; (3) the cafe has a nice homey, family-friendly decor. THE BAD-GENERAL: (1) it's quite overpriced. I don't think I've ever paid $15 for a vegan burger before at any restaurant--much less one where you order at the register. And it was small. (By the way, $15 for one burger, and $14.95 for another; what's up with that? How about a consistent pricing scheme?); THE BAD-TODAY (I had a much better experience on my previous visit): (2) service was poor. We waited an hour for our burgers. I realize there was only one guy to cover a busy cafe, but if he had told us up front it would be an hour, that would have made a difference. I asked for water and it never came, even though we were the only people left in the restaurant, and he was just doing dishes; (3) bad attitude. Dude had a sour expression most of the time. A woman picked up her to go order and asked "Doesn't it come with lettuce or tomato or anything?" Answer: "Nope, sorry." I don't know what she ordered, but at these prices, you can't throw in a piece of lettuce when someone asks? As noted above, I was here 6 months ago, and the service was friendly and prompt. So I don't know which experience is typical. But food was yummy and prices were high both times.
Simple bliss is a great vegan restaurant in slt that has very tasty food and a great atmosphere. If you have vegetarian dietery requirements this is really the only place you want to go in South Lake Tahoe and the food is so good you'll forget its missing all the other stuff like glutin, soy or dairy. Give this place a try even if you're not a vegetarian and most likely you will want to come back it's that delicious.. The only thing to mention is it takes a while because everything is made from scratch so it will take longer to make your food than you may be used to but it's well worth the wait for sure.. I'm not a vegetarian but my girlfriend is and I am happy to go back again and again and have been back 3x in one month myself..
Small portions; mediocre flavor; San Francisco prices
