Went here yesterday after at hike at Griffth park. Great place for brunch although I'm sure any meal here would be great! They have a big selection but the menu is thought out well and not too overbearing. Everything was fresh and big portions. The service was super friendly and helpful ( not to mention easy on the eyes- bonus!) They have a great bar you can sit and eat at and a huge selection of cakes that could've reversed all evidence of a 3 hour hike! :) I will be going back for sure!

I went to this restaurant tonight in hopes of bonding with my two daughters; sharing a pleasant experience over coffee & dessert. What i got was terrible, rude service, and the most awful customer service i'm sure i could ever receive. The blond girl at the cash register who took my order was cold, un-personable, & her attire was messy & unkept. By her tone of voice & body language, it was very obvious she was not happy to serve me, or even speak to me as a valued guest or customer. The coffee was cold, my wine & pudding stale, & my daughter's tea bag ripped inside of the mug, tea leaf flaked floating at the bottom of her shallow mug. When i went back to the cash register to ask for new drinks, the same girl gave me an even icier treatment than before, holding up her hand to my face, while she was making a personal phone call & turned me away with an "i'm busy right now." Utterly shocked i asked her fellow co-worker for her name, hoping to speak with a manager who would hear me, but he told me he would not provide me that information; probably due to the fact that she was staring him down in an intimidating manner. I WILL NEVER come back to this cafe ever again. I am only sorry that i had to put my family through this, and i pray whoever decides to have a meal here does not experience this RACIST, DISCRIMINATING, & UNACCEPTABLE behavior.

This place is great. The salmon sandwich is fantastic, probably the best I've had. The bread pudding is delicious, also some of the best I've had. This place is especially great because you pay up front so you don't awkwardly split the bill later if you're in a group but you still feel like you're in a decent restaurant. The only awkward part of this place is the parking. Prepare an extra 5-10 minutes to search if you don't intend on paying for the valet service.

Dinning atmosphere hardly gets better as it's located in a revamped historic brick building and the front courtyard with trees and soft lighting setting a bucolic mood amidst bustling Hillhurst Ave. The food is great and the Alcove is known for it's pastries and baked goods. They also offer delicious juices and good booze. Only downside is that it's all pretty pricey.

Everything I ever had here is fresh and tasty. If its a beautiful day its the perfect place to come and sit in the patio area relax and grab a good breakfast with friends. Their deserts are amazing. Coffee is made great as well. Not as expensive as I thought.
