Esau's Coffee Shop
Reviews
Ordered a Carpinteria Caesar, Baja Tacos and Mini Stack of Pancakes. I got the pancakes because many of the reviews said you needed to get the pancakes, and they were right -- I could've survived with just the pancakes. A mini stack is two 8" discs, size of a small skillet. All the other portions were huge and had a mid-west flair to them (think heavy and rich). Service was very mom & pop -- friendly and slow. I noticed the head waitress "scolding" the busboy to stop chatting and get cleaning; yet, she was doing the same thing to the lesser degree. Also, the bathroom needed a refreshing -- paper towels were overflowing the trash can. Despite all that, I still liked the place. They were slow, but hey, it's Carpinteria -- you suppose to slow down. Also, they need to check on the bathroom more often.
The absolute best onion rings we have ever had in our life. It's not a place you want to go if you want prompt service. It's very laid back by the beach. My wife had the garden salad. Everything was fresh in right.
The food is good. The coffee is great. Everything is overpriced. The service is the worst in Santa Barbara County. Trust me, I live here locally and my husband and I go in about once a month. It has become a laughing matter at how poor the service is. Every time we go we hope for the best, but always leave disappointed. Hopefully they will get it together someday. I would recommed going to Esau's in Santa Barbara... their staff is great. Also, other great local options are Cajun Kitchen and Chamomile Cafe.
The pasilla pepper omelette stuffed with jack cheese topped with spicy salsa is so good we go there once a week for this amazing house special. Fantastic!
$27.00 for fish & chips, a grilled cheese sandwich & 2 drinks. I don't mind paying this kind of money if the food is good, but this wasn't. Fish was overcooked & the sandwich was just plain bad! Left here & went home & ate.
