Penasco's Mexican Restaurant
Reviews

We were there in October of 2014, when we walked in it smelled like "sewer water", we thought hey maybe a plumbing problem, shouldn't affect our food, I had a busted pipe once at home. Well we sat down, the service was a C+, the food was bland, cold and tasted old. I got enchiladas, the chicken and beans tasted sour (spoiled) I sent it back, I asked for a plain quesadilla thinking how could u go wrong with this and even that tasted funny. I ordered a macaroni and cheese dinner for my 6 y/o and the presentation was horrible, it looked like my child had made it himself from a 99 cent box in the back. When we got the bill I was charged for the enchilada meal i hadn't eaten and I guess had been given for "free" the 1 quesadilla. The bill came out to $55 + tip (burrito, enchiladas, mac & cheese, juice, soda and 1 alcoholic bev).... I will never return until new owner or management.

We took some friends for dinner at Penasco's and for one of my friends it was his first time eating there. Well the owner came over and was gracious in welcoming us and said to enjoy our "fiesta"!! We did.. However, when we were ready to order dessert, the waitress came over and said, "There is no desserts" The owner never came over to excuse the situation. The waitress said they are going to have new desserts to offer in the near future. We thought the best customer service they could've offered was to tell us to come back and have dessert on them!!! On the contrary. After we left, I called on the phone to speak with the owner. She did come to the phone. When I inquired why they didn't have desserts, the owner said, "We had flan" and she was going through some family drama. Not to be insensitive here, but she is running a business and customers come and expect quality service. I must say she never offered compensation of any kind. She just kept trying to explain how awful her family drama was. I and my friends will never go there again. I am not into mexican food. However, when and if I'd like Mexican food, there are so many more to choose from and you will never hear, "We are out of dessert"

Won't go back when I'm in Maricopa. Chimi had no flavor, the salsa was all tomatoes no spice and the bean burrito was very plain no taste either. My family was disappointed with the blahness (if that's a word) of the food. The atmosphere and service was great but that was not Mexican Food. Wasn't impressed with the price.

Ate here on 1/12/14 and will not be going back any time soon. 3 out of 4 of our party got sick within 24 hrs of eating here, and did not eat anywhere else together for atleast 7 days prior and do not live together. The Dishware at this restaurant is in poor condition and can harbor bacteria. Chipped and cracked plates can harbor bacteria that can't be sanitized by normal washing. 4 out the 5 plates had cracks/chips bigger than a nickle. The food tasted burnt and we did not eat 50% of it. Foodborne illness is where I cross the line, and I've filled a compliant with Pinal county

I love Mexican food and don't consider myself that picky but this place is horrible. It's overpriced and the food is awful. We went several times thinking it was a one off but its the same every time. It sucks because you don't have a lot of choices in Maricopa.
