Theehuis Rhijnauwen
Reviews
Amazing leafy green environs. Situated at a bend in the languid Kromme Rijn river, with walking and cycling routes nearby, as well as tenniscourts, a playground, (picknick) parks and a musty old fort. Service is ussually quick and friendly, even when the place is packed (as it invariably is in the summer). Dont visit if you dont like lots of kids around: this is a family place. Visit in the winter for some hot coco after a bracingly cold walk. Oh yeah, the pancakes are consistently good as well (its a pancake house).
The pancakes are good, and the staff is friendly, but most of all I go here because of the idyllic setting of this place. It's just a short bike ride removed from Utrecht and the university campus, but nonetheless it's almost perfectly secluded from the city.
This is a great place to take visitors. It has terrific traditional Dutch pancakes and a relaxed atmosphere. On a nice day, you can sit outside on the edge of the Kromme Rijn and watch the ducks waddle around looking for handouts. After eating, you can go pet the potbelly pigs or goats. The service quality varies depending on the staff. As is common with Dutch restaurants, it can take a long time to get your order taken or food to arrive. Don't expect too much, and you won't be disappointed. Just enjoy the sights and the company, and don't rush.
Good for pancakes.
Nice location friendly staff.
