Grand Hotel Mornington
Reviews
Food is average, service can be hit and miss. If you can find somewhere else on Main street would probably suggest it.
Our meals were lovely. I had the calimari which was presented and cooked to perfection. My partner had the mixed antipasto platter which she gave a "nice" which considering how choosy she is, is a high recommendation
I quite like the Grand hotel, love coming in on a Wednesday lunch after visiting the main street market. Meals are great if you like pub style dishes and the staff are always welcoming. Gets really busy though so best to book, but still we never wait to long for our food to come out. And its nice to see that the staff care enough to ask us how our meals are going. Well run establishment, with mangers visibly working along side the wait staff. Always happy after a meal in the bistro.
Parking at the rear was a little difficult, just not enough because it pretty much services the shopping complex just on the other side. Decor is pretty standard for a pub - there was no music though, small tables and not much room to maneuver. Staff are friendly and professional. Large pub sized meals as expected however it's a little on the pricey side. The meals themselves were nice however they could've had a little more flavour. Chicken schnitzel was slightly on the dry side, slightly soggy from the mushroom sauce but a decent size. Crumbed calamari was nice but could've had a little more seasoning. Split payment for a large group was easy as it should be in our century.
We are regulars here because we always have a nice time. The same wait staff appear to be there a lot too which I think shows it is a nice place not a high turn over. The kids love the menu with the colouring and being spoken to by the waitress when she comes to take their order as if they are regular patrons and they can make their order even getting told what the roast of the day is (my daughters favourite to hear about!) :) My only suggestion would be to get rid of the tall skinny soft drink jugs that spill when you try and pour them (we've tried ever angle and I worked behind a bar for many years and still cant do it without spilling)
