Southside Tea Room
Reviews
Really enjoy having breakfast and a coffee at Southside, nicest coffee and food in Morningside. Staff are great and I love the alternative feel to the cafe. Loyalty card is great, bye four coffee's next one's free. The guys are working on starting a food truck and accept donations, felt good to support this great local business.
This cute little cafe nestled away in south-east inner city Brisbane has the atmosphere of the 70's. It's retro furniture and alternative music sets the mood and then the food is amazing! I ordered the burrito and home-made lemonade and they were both fresh and flavoursome. The price was also good and definitely worth frequenting!
Amazingly, combining all of the over-the-top aspects of Southside Tea Room weaves an amazing tapestry of rad: couches your Nanna had, macrame pot holders, pinball machines, fake flowers, crocheted tablecloths, fairy lights, novelty teaspoons, Tupperware party platters and curios adoring every surface. Find a spot where you can check out the quirky crew of cuties while you tuck into a Cuban sandwich, smokey BBQ baked beans, a breakfast burrito or the huevos rancheros (it's perhaps the best I have ever had!).
If you like the hipster scene, you'll love this cafe - tables are a combination of school desks & old doors bolted to walls. The walls are adorned with quirky posters & pictures, odd books and nostalgic photos of things like Expo 88. There's also a pinball machine & an arcade game / shooter cabinet. The drinks / hot chocolates are served in old jars. Speaking of hot chocolate, there are 4 varieties including Nutella, Jaffa and Peanut Butter flavours (I tried the latter) - a great twist and I'd love to go back and try all of them! We went on a Sunday morning at around 10am. My friends tried the home-made lemonade & a long black. The lemonade was great - not too sweet with a great lemony after-taste. The coffee was well made but not strong enough. Unusually, all three of us chose the same meal for breakfast (well, brunch) - the Hungry Hippie with bacon. Absolutely fantastic and well priced. Service was very friendly & the drinks came out withing 5 minutes; meal within another 10 minutes. Morningside is an odd choice of location for this place... it'd be right at home in West End, but is a pleasing addition to the sometimes stale Morningside cafe scene which hasn't changed in quite some time. Refreshing to see - follow it up with some sweets from the Flour & Chocolate bakery 50 meters away. Southside Tea Room was great for a Sunday morning brunch. 9/10 - we'll certainly be back to try other meals and drinks here. Keep up the great work guys! :-)
Great coffee. Very styled and cosy. Food menu looked a bit light on at first, but actually quite good.
