Generally a win. The pool is gorgeous. The staff are friendly - had some great chats with house keeping staff. The staff are around enough but not all the time so it feels private and cosy. If you need anything, you can always pop into the pub next door. Room: well planned and huge. Nice touches like plenty of towels, loads of hanging & drawer space and places to put bags(plural) off the ground (why do they only ever give you one of these?). The bath in the standard room is big enough for two (if you're rather short). Extremely comfy bed which is 2 king singles joined together so there's a tiny dent in the middle but no bother, and there's a lovely seat at the bottom. Great shower. You get a little outdoor table space which is excellent but if it rains it's not covered. The Irish pub which they also run is great. I'm not convinced it felt Irish which is a plus for me. It was light, airy and clean. High ceilings and comfortable. Food, staff, views: Tick. It's the pick of the local pubs. You will need a car to enjoy this area properly. Drive to the beach at Crowdy Head. Do this often.

Of course, looking at this map it may be obvious to anyone that this accommodation is not in the NSW wine region. We got a discounted price on the room, paid about 180p/n early october 08. I made the mistake of booking and not checking the location on a map. It's 2.5 hrs north of the Hunter Valley. Overall, nice place was very quiet. There is not a whole lot to do in Harrington but if you have a car there are places to see within 20kms of the place. Room service in the lodge consisted only of making the bed and folding or replacing towels. Dont expect them to clean coffee cups and wine glasses!! Bar fridge, cups and saucers, teaspoons and wine glasses are supplied, but that is all. Coles is nearby but you will need to have your own plates, knives etc if you want to make your own sandwiches etc. Nearby oyster farm on Harrington road has beautiful oysters at about $10/doz.
