Coming from Chicago, I find rural Wisconsin dining to be challenging if you want anything more than roadhouse fare. The Kounty Quarthouse got my attention, and for me is a destination meal. They have interesting takes on their sandwich options, plus a decent selection of drafts. Servings are generous and the price can't be beat. My favorite sandwich is the crispy pork belly with Korean slaw and barbeque sauce on a ciabatta roll. But the deconstructed Reuben -- corn beef between potato pancakes is tasty, as is the Ultimate Barbecue -- a bacon cheeseburger stacked high with onion rings. Not so keen on the KQ version of the capresse, which they do with deep fried mozzarella and tomato jam. They do a great job on their fries.
For what it is, a diner/dive, this place is great: huge, delicious potions, creative food, great staff, a decent craft beer selection and the Northwoods ambiance. I'll be back with friends.
Amazing food! The owner is brilliant and she is a remarkable chef! Definitely a place to go if you're ever in the area!
Awesome food. Bring your appetite! And order the onion tanglers.
