Gina's Restaurant and Bar
Reviews
From the appetizers to dessert we enjoyed every morsel of our meal. We started with crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms. They were exceptional but just the beginning. Next came the Gina salad, fresh greens topped with strawberries, sweet walnuts, balsamic onions, mine with a balsamic vinaigrette, my husbands with the blue cheese dressing, we were both equally pleased. For our main course we both chose the filets, cooked to taste and beautifully presented on a bed of mashed potatoes topped with mushrooms and a lovely brown sauce, each bite from first to last was delicious. We normally skip dessert but could not pass on the recommended creme brulee, one to share and one to bring home followed by fresh brewed coffee. This was truly a dining experience in a lovely old building that has a modern vibe and old world charm. Everything was impeccable, food, wine and service. We look forward to returning to Platteville soon and sampling more of Gina's fresh elegant cuisine. Thank you to all who made this a special experience!
I had the Bourbon St. Medley (great) and my wife had Stuffed Shrimp over pasta in a rich Alfredo sauce. Both were excellent and more than we could eat. We also indulged in an order of deep fried cheese curds with two dipping sauces. Also very good. The waitress was very pleasant and apologetic for several tables of very noisy kids - including one that was apparently the owners child. Most annoying. The food was very enjoyable - but it needs some work on ambiance.
Gina's has this warm atmosphere brought about through authentic tapestries draped from the walls and colorful tiles that speak beneath your heels. The beginning experience was a traditional night out: everything was rolling as we were seated, ordered our drinks and eventually ordered our food. Once our food arrived, the table fell silent. Everyone's attention fell upon what we had been waiting for and undoubtably, there were no complaints. After all, it is difficult to complain about something when your enjoying it so much. Throughout the evening, we were guided by what seemed to be an amateur waitress who was responsible for spilling a glass of water. It was no problem though, as we were soon rewarded with several invested desserts - I'll take a free dessert for some spilled water any day. Overall, I'll be returning whenever I have the chance and inviting whoever I can. One last note, if you go to Gina's take precedence of the small salt and pepper shakers stationed at your table. Only a restaurant that makes food to that level of quality can certify for such a small set of shakers - you simply don't need to adjust a thing.
