Nearly flawless. We've visited the Holstein several times for breakfast and have always been impressed. The service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The food is outstanding and portion sizes are just right. You'll leave the Holstein feeling neither hungry nor gluttonous. The menu is disciplined, limiting its scope to those things that can be done very well with a few simple, fresh ingredients. Flavors are unique and robust without being too far afield from traditional diner fare. My lone criticism, and it's a small one, is the music played in the dining room. The content is fine, with an eclectic mix of American folk rock, but the volume was a bit high to carry on a conversation. Beyond this minute concern I am unable to find anything less than stellar to say about the Holstein.

The Holstein is simply put, outstanding in every way. I have never, ever had food of this caliber, especially the breakfast, anywhere in the world. For a place like this to be located in Brooklyn, Wisconsin is both incredibly fortunate and at the same time, a tragedy. I say this because I live in Oregon and this place being close enough for me to drive there in less than ten minutes is spectacular for me, but a lot of people will miss out on this gem because of it's remote location. Let me tell you, if you live in Madison or even Middleton, this place is worth the drive. The omelettes are outstanding, all made with some of the most quality ingredients I've ever seen in a breakfast. The Blood Marys are incredible, they have SNICKERDOODLE AND OREO pancakes (yes, you read that correctly) and basically what I'm saying is that you can order anything on the menu and it's going to be the best dish you've ever had. I would eat here every morning if I could. Don't miss out, get your butt to the Holstein and you won't be disappointed.

We finally made it to this restaurant when it was open and are we glad we did. Almost gave up because their hours are a little unconventional. But the food is excellent, the wait staff is attentive and the owner made himself available to answer questions. It is now our favorite breakfast place (though it had some great looking lunch entrees on the menu). Next, we plan to visit the Friday fish fry. If it's as good as their breakfast, it will be great.

Worst restaurant i have ever been to. me and my grandmother started the morning by going to Country place cafe. this restaurant seemed very nice at first. our waitress recommended the Barbecue Pulled pork, which came on top of bacon and potatoes with a barbecue sauce, this came with a side of eggs and toast. the eggs were ok but the BBQ pork was slimy and overpowering. my grandmother cant use metal forks, so she asked for a plastic one. the waitress said that they had one in back and that she would go get one. my grandmother sat there for over 10 minutes waiting before she finally told the owner of the shop that she didn't get her her fork and he said that they don't have any. a minute or two later our waitress came out with a plastic fork. of course by then her food had became cold, so they heated it up in the microwave. the two plates of sloppy, slimy pulled pork had added up to a total of $25.62. my grandmother, being the nice person she is, wanted to leave a tip, but had no one dollar bills. so she gave her a 20 and a 10. we waited another 10 minutes for our change. after waiting so long we decided to just leave. i didn't, though. i went back in and asked the waitress for a number and address. when she asked why, i told her that the service was displeasing and the food was gross. she acted very surprised that i was saying so, and said in a very snooty voice, "Well if you would have said something i would have fixed the problem!" the owner said that he was sorry and gave the money back, or that's what every body else thought. in reality he only gave 10 of the 25 dollars we payed back. Worst service, Gross food, the best part of this restaurant was their orange juice. if i could i would rate it 0 out of 5 stars

We have been coming here since it opened. The food is great! and huge portions! We usually share it is so much. We love this place and would highly recommend the drive to eat here. The food is local and the cheese is great!
