The INN
Reviews
we traveled for 2 weeks through new england and had wonderful experiences everywhere.....except at this inn.....we left our kennebunkport maine hotel, though we wanted to stay on......to drive to vermont, since we had a one night reservation at the inn on trout river and felt obligated.......arrived late in the day, no other guests, the owner nick greeted us and asked if we would mind taking an "upgraded" room in the rear of the building rather than the one we had requested and reserved.....so that they wouldn't have to heat the front of the house.....we agreed since it looked comfortable enough, and was.......the dining room/kitchen/bar of the inn were closed since it was monday night, there was nothing to eat or drink, nick spoke at length of the wedding party for 70 they had hosted over the weekend and his "executive chef", though we were offered nothing in the way of a snack or drink........the only place to eat in this tiny (1 street) unfortunate town was a small diner, we decided against it after looking at the menu........there was nothing to eat or drink and nowhere to go.......we felt unwelcome and in the way, felt we could have been offered at least a glass of wine and/or a snack......at one point i left our room to go into the main house to speak with nick, he and his partner were talking business with another gentleman, i stood for some time not wanting to interrupt, i was ignored by all and finally left to go back to our little hideaway.......we ended up driving in the dark back down the winding mountain road to finally find a small, isolated restaurant/bar to have dinner at, then back to the room, never again saw nick, his partner, or anyone else at the inn, it felt like a ghost inn........we left early the next morning (couldn't get away fast enough).......had been offered breakfast by nick the day before, but he requested we not have it until 9 am so that he or anyone else wouldn't have to get up or come to the inn earlier.........all in all, a totally unpleasant experience, we felt lost and unwelcome at this inn.......the town is depressing and broken-down......definitely would not recommend based on our experience
The Inn is now hosting a monthly venue for creative artists. This is a gracious few hours experience of music ,visual art and writing. The meal was quite a gastronomic experience on top of the fine brews and drinks... endless cups of coffee that I was afforded. The Lamb chops , cooked to perfection, were so delicious, I will return for them alone.. The grassy area that is seating, dance floor, Agricultural Museum and Art Gallery is a treat. There are walks along the Trout River, delightful outdoor and indoor spaces. The bedrooms are upstairs in a New England Inn/Ski Lodge arrangement. It is such a hidden secret. The locals join the energetic and hospitable staff and owner to make this a Vermont EXPERIENCE. 10 out of 5!!!!!
Was staying in the Phineas Swann B&B next door and we walked over for dinner. Everything was delicious, but the fried avocado and the cheddar burger with yam fries really stood out
Great food! Cozy but stylishly decorated lounge.
Excellent accommodations, restaurant/bar and hospitality. Completely restored and provides a first class traditional Vermont Inn experience. Best restaurant around. My wife and daughters will back next year.
