Wyld Thyme Cafe & Wine Bar
Reviews
Had an anniversary dinner tonight with my wonderful wife at the Wyld Thyme Cafe and Wine Bar in Winchester, VA. We were looking for something a bit "different" for dinner, and when I googled "fine dining" in Winchester, the Cafe came up. It looked rather interesting and of course, we love wine. We were not disappointed. The place is quite charming, sparsely, but elegantly, decorated. The menu, while limited, offered some spectacular sounding dishes. After choosing a bottle of German Mosel Riesling wine to accompany our dinners, Lynette decided to try their soup of the day, which turned out to be her favorite, delicious homemade split pea and ham -- very, very good. For an entree, she opted for the Pescatore (Angel hair pasta, chunks of salmon, sea scallops, and jumbo shrimp, all in a white wine sauce). I also went with the soup (the best split pea and ham soup I've ever tasted -- and in a fairly large bowl, not a cup). For my entree, I was drawn to the pork tenderloin scaloppini and it turned out to be one really great meal. The pork tenderloin was finished with a sweet fig and Ancho chili jam and was really quite exquisite, to say the least. We shared a dessert, a warm butterscotch flavored bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream -- and, again, quite tasty. Prices are quite reasonable for a fine dining establishment. The service was excellent as our hostess/waitress, Carol (who is co-owner of the Cafe), spent a considerable amount of time answering our questions and just chatting with us as she came to/from our table. The wine list was quite varied and extensive (what one might expect from a wine bar), I chided Carol for not having a single Washington State wine on their list. Domestic wines included two Oregon wines and several CA wines, plus other wines from around the world. The Cafe's menu says the owners wanted to "establish a sophisticated yet casual place, featuring “Refined American Cuisine” paired with fine wines and personable service." I think they got it just right! All in all, we came away quite pleased with our experience and most definitely plan to return at some future date!
Food is always great at this restaurant and the service is friendly and helpful! I especially love the vegetables that they serve, but I enjoy everything! The best thing about the restaurant beside the delicious food is that there is usually little to no wait time to be seated!
My family hosted a rehearsal dinner here in September 2009. Caroline (general manager/entrepreneur) and Farshad (chef/entrepreneur) helped me customize a menu for party of approximately 40 people. From the initial phone inquiry to the end of the event, this restaurant and its staff proved to be worth the cost. I had considered several venues in the Winchester area and Wyld Thyme Cafe was CERTAINLY WAS NOT the cheapest place. However, I chose this place based on their professionalism, ambience, presentation, and location. Few of the family members have dined at the restaurant (I do not live in the area) and have "reported back" to me that it was a great venue; prior to finalizing. We rented out the entire restaurant on a Saturday evening - everybody had a great time. It's small, yet cozy, and well decorated restaurant. Farshad is a great chef. I wanted to make sure he put "his touch" to menu; instead of me asking/telling what to make. Everything tasted fresh and genuine. I will be sure to dine at Wyld Thyme Cafe when I visit home.
