Very poor experience. After I waited 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment, the barber cut my hair completely different from how I asked and did a very haphazard job--very uneven on the bangs, cut down almost to the scalp when I had requested for them to remain long enough to sweep. I had heard good things about this place but was very frustrated. I can't believe I paid 20$ for this. Definitely not coming back.

I love Refuge For Men! Very fun, clean and professional place to receive services. If you're looking for a skilled barber definitely check them out! They're even multicultural. Big plus for me (:

If you live in Richmond and have hair you should get it cut here. I went in and had a great experience, but after I got home realized it was too long for my liking on top. The next morning I went in and they took care of it free of charge. Solid professionals cleaning up Richmond one cut at a time.

Truly nothing I had ever experienced before. I felt like I was in a spa for dudes, pampered and what not. I had the pleasure of sitting down in the seat of the owner Dot. She was like an artist, truly. The scissors sounded and looked like an extension of her fingers as she worked with precision and speed. I had been talking with her for almost a week now as I have previously been growing out my beard, mustache and hair for well over a year with no trims or cuts in between and was incredibly skeptical about someone taking a blade to them. So once she trimmed up my hair and beard, she stepped aside so Charles, the straight blade surgeon, could step in and do his thing, brotha worked that blade like no other barber I had ever met before, was wild. Lastly I sat down for a thorough shampoo, condition and dry. I was asked at one point while I was there if I was a 'beard model', I laughed but as I looked in the mirror before leaving I thought I felt about as pretty as one, ha, so I reckon that works. If I had anything critical to say, it would be that I didn't clarify my desires for my mustache and it was taken down significantly further than I wanted. Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, but after having a year long mustache, I really was only looking for a small trim on the tips or the length and ended up with a buzzed stache, but I own that b/c I really didn't stress what I wanted in that, so I refuse to take anything away from Dot or my experience at Refuge for that. All in all, truly a dope spot =D

Easily the best haircut and mos enjoyable experience I have ever had. I've been going to see Dot for almost a year now and I thought my first amazing experience was a fluke, but I've been every month since and it's the same deal. Honestly, for the first time in my life, I enjoy my haircuts and the way I look. Totally recommend Dot at Refuge for Men.
